It looks like a straight through cooler. It appears to be plumbed on the pressure side of the system. Pump cavitation would indicate a restriction on the suction side of the pump. Your question is slightly vague. If you are trying to troubleshoot a problem, a simple loop of hose to bypass the cooler will tell you if you are on the right path.
Adding the cooler and hose does effectively lengthen the path the fluid flows. Between the added length and the cooler, you will experience some friction loss through the system. Friction loss equates to a pressure drop. It is minimal, but measurable.

yup, vague. the loop idea was proposed to me by someone else, it's the next step. just wanted to see if anyone else had problems. looks like no. _________________ '74 transporter panel
