|
|
On July 2nd 1976 My Bus was "born" so for it's 40th birthday I figured a Cruise was in store (couldn't go camping too busy of a weekend to find a spot). We started out in the woods of Northwest Florida drove down to the Gulf Coast for a bit and ended the evening at the Oldest European City in America to watch a baseball game. The Yellow Bus is mine, the Green my brothers and the Black Hightop is a friend

Happy Birthday to your bus! That's the best way to show her you love her.
Which "born" date did you use?
My beloved '68 has her 50th coming up next year, so we're planning a similar way to celebrate. _________________ ~Kevin

thanks
That's the date we're going to use also. I was wondering about when she rolled off the line, or when she was sent to the dealer. I know when she was sold new, but she was "born" before that. _________________ ~Kevin

hmmm I looked up my codes and I thought the date I had was the day the PO or invoice was created. I think the day she rolled off the factory floor is when she was "born". I wasn't sure I could find that date. _________________ ~Kevin

'Dan's Bus' rolled off the Hannover production line on the 1st July 1976.
I purchased her in Lagos, Nigeria on the 24th October 1976 and she has been part of our family ever since!
I too, took her for a little birthday run on Friday, up to the local airfield for some R/C model plane flying.
@kerian159...............What is your chassis #, we must be very close as our bus's are only one day apart?
For your info., Dan's Bus chassis # 236 2 153 325

Chassis # is the British way of referring to VIN #'s...........with a little more class I think!
That's all very interesting, not even VW could build 11,000 new bus's in one day,
they must have been running at least two sets of VIN #'s concurrently.
Could be that my Bus was built as a standard Kombi, and yours was destined to go to Westfalia for completion as a camper.
