First photo of front, showing soldered/large-knob connectors, second photo shows rear. Only marked with "SWF", unsure of year(s)/model(s) it's for. Have never seen one like this in the 40+ years that I've owned/worked on air-cooled VWs...
Any suggestions?

The only thing I can come up with is semaphore switch. Don't they have just 5 wires? Do you have any of the housing to perform a steering column diameter comparison? It would be nice to find it's for an early European bus..

Actually, this does have 6 connectors, the 2 in the upper left-hand corner are somewhat hard to tell apart. Have only the mechanism, unfortunately nothing else.
Did a Samba search for "semaphore" right after reading your reply, but nothing on the three pages of ads that came up looks like what I have. However, who knows?

6 wires would be 59 down to? with front and rear signals
or split window bus

But, what about the odd knob connectors? I've never seen those before...

Looks like the early SWF 356 A switch used from 1956 into 1957.

Difficult to tell from your photo, but does the one you posted have the same type of soldering knobs?
BTW, also just searched through all 1,425 gallery photos that came up using key words "turn" "signal" and no luck there...
