Ok, gonna sound like a total noob here... I am new to fuel injection (had dual carbs prior).
The female clip inserts (for power) on all 4 of the injectors keep popping out and is causing delayed acceleration and backfiring. Does anyone have any methods for keeping them in? Should I just remove the rubber housing? Rewire with new clips and new rubber housing?
Thanks in advance for any tips/recommendations! |

It is not clear from your description what is loose. Got a photo? |

Ok, those are stock D-jet connectors.
The electrical connection is actually pretty independent of the fit of the white plastic connector into the injector socket. But if your plug is vibrating loose from the injector, then something unusual is going on. I've never seen those very loose, regardless of age.
You can disengage the small female connectors of the wiring harness from the white plastic plug housing, using jewelers screwdriver, pull them free, and then gently tighten the rolled edges so the electrical connection to the injector's male pins. Then click them back into the housing. This would solve the electrical part.
But the mechanical part is puzzling. So are you saying that if you roll the rubber boots back, the connector comes off the injector? |

Hmm interesting. Yeah if I pull the boot back, it disconnects - even if i wiggle the wires, they pop out.
But that's not a bad idea to pull the connectors and make sure the connection is snug and put them back in. Then I can pinch the ends a smidgen so the connection is tighter. I may just get new D-jet connectors. |

Another question:
Anyone know where I can get new rubber boots for the D-jet connectors? Searched everywhere for some and no luck - mine are brittle. Are they even necessary?
OK that's two questions |

They help because the T3 engine bay is not sealed from the road splash like the T1 and T2. Corrosion increases resistance, and resistances drive much of the D-Jet system.
Hard to find, but there are some near replacements. Search threads for "fuel injection wiring harness" and you may find some sources.
I bought an expensive new harness but the boots are starting to crack, so I may be looking as well. The new ones are thicker, harder, and seem to have less "give" than the thinner stock boots, perhaps causing the problem.
Another option is to use a later style connector, with some modifications. You will find those references in the same threads from the above search. |

Ok, all sounds good. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.
I found some new connectors and yeah, I'm just gonna go with modified rubber housing. |

AutoAtlanta has both. But be warned, they are Porsche parts and come with Porsche prices. It might be worth going to an import pick N pull and look at some water cooled VW's for the boots. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yeah you're right about the prices, but the 2-pole boot is $9.50 which isn't too bad. Prob go with those.
Thanks for the lead! |
