In my 'new' 74 Thing, one of the front arms has a very sloppy bushing on the inside.
Has anyone used the Urethane bushing shown here?
Apparently you do not use the outer needle bearing and use this larger bushing that replaces both.
So no need for the special reaming tool.

I just put them in my auto-X Baja over the winter. I've heard complaints that they squeak, and can wear out after a few thousand miles. I drive my car so little that I'm not worried about either... |

My reproduction Kubelwagen used a '70 beetle chassis. The right lower bearing was so worn out, the arm had worn thru the shell of the bearing & started working on the I.D. of the beam. I bought some of these urethane parts like you posted & used some epoxy to ensure a round fit. The rig doesn't get a lot of use, but it's all off road when it does. Been installed for about 6 months so far & no ill effects yet. |

I was told to drill a hole from the outside through the installed bushing, tap the hole and put in a zerk grease nipple. That should stop it squeaking.
I am waiting to see if I really need the reamer, but will decide in August, when I come back from Vintage meet in Seattle. I will be in my 63 singlecab with the hoops and bows and the canvas top. I think there will be a lot more drag, so I am planning on going slow, 55-60mph. _________________ 63 singlecab
