Could you please tell me what part number wheel bearings inner and outer and what inner seal you used for the 3" lift combo spindles? looks great! _________________ 4 seater Appletree buggy, road legal with 002 IRS, 3x3 Appletree kit, 6" over Dan's beam with 10" towers and Fox 2.0 shocks, '00 Subaru EJ25 with KEP stage 3 clutch and KEP adapter plate.

This is only a quick test of the engine. Note I did not have the generator fan hooked up at that time.

Nice clean build I have a single port 1600 with the same exhaust you have. I hope mine sounds like yours. _________________ My Build: '69 Baja - Dark Earth Version

I used the drums from a link pin beam which I think was either 63-65.
Thanks Dark Earth, I'm watching your build to. Great job so far!
Here's a few photos of the Jamar turning brake installed. I love the idea of being able to lock each wheel separately kinda like a diff locker.
Welded in nuts so the assembly is completely bolt in.
Sand blasting the body continues. Getting closer each time. I'd say I'm about 80% done. The body is in relatively good condition except for the passenger front panel.
Yuck!! Good thing the front is being chopped off for that one piece front clip.

Looks like the PO was very creative with sheet metal, rivets and multiple layers of bondo

Thanks Agunlund!
Super exciting day the wheels showed up today after waiting almost an entire month. So I picked them up and headed directly to Discount tire to have them mounted and balanced. The rears tires are still on backorder ugh.
If your wondering where I bought the wheels I got them from Jegs.
http://www.jegs.com/i/US-Wheel/947/940-5854R/10002/-1
Going to have to paint those wheel weights black.
I have 17" of ground clearance. Yippee!

Good spot Travis!.
Yup. The dimples around the lug holes should bulge outward from the face of the wheel, and the lug then should "crush" the dimple as the lug is tightened. That works like a lock washer to keep the bolt (or nut, if you have studs) from coming loose. _________________ Richard

SO im assuming its unsafe to run them backwards as i was once considering it. and another issue i see is the rim even touching the drum creating a small contact patch between the 2 so id think rims would bend? |

So I've finished sand blasting the entire body, but I have some concerns. I've noticed the metal has cracked along the rear wheel wells and the ash tray is crooked. This has me concerned that the body is twisted. Any help or ideas is welcomed.
This is what concerns me the most. Look closely at the ash tray.
Behind the ash try. Was there ever sealer put there?
And for reference the ash tray from my 65 bug.
One of the cracks along the rear wheel wells.
Another one.
So is the body junk and twisted or not? Thanks _________________ Current Volkswagen's:

Lots of old Baja Bugs are cracked where the rear package shelf meets the rear wheel wells. I had to put some tacks in mine last time I painted it. That's no problem. And would CERTAINLY NOT be a reason to junk the body.
The ash tray area is obviously bent. I'm really not too sure how one would bend that. Unless it was somebody trying to steal a radio or get to the back side of the ignition switch to steal the car long ago and it didn't get fixed right.
However, it also is not major grief. If the window opening fits the glass, it's good. And even if it isn't quite right, it can be tweaked a little to fix it.
I would be thinking about putting a 2x4 on the ash tray shelf trunk side and using a 4lb mallet to push the one side down to straight. _________________ Richard

Really? This is my first baja bug didn't know cracking in the rear wheel wells was common. Took your suggestion about the ash tray and it worked perfectly. Thanks for help _________________ Current Volkswagen's:

It's been almost a year since I started working on the pan and today I removed the jack stands and rolled the pan out of the garage. Wow! The rear tires are a 31x10.5
I might have slight rubbing issues, but it'll fit. lol!
Victory beer!
