My hatch latch and pin are in bad shape. I will build them back with weld.

Built the bad bits up with weld and filed it off. Latches great now.

Body work... not my favorite thing

Cargo doors were quite ruff. Filler is thin but covers most of the doors. I have them flat so now just a very thin skim and sand to finish the filler.

That's how a lot of my bus ended up too, thin but pretty much everywhere. Magnets still attach, so its all good.

Bit more smooth today.

Using a square to ensure things are straight and flat. Going quite well.

And more...

Very happy with how it's coming. Was worried I couldn't get everything lined up and looking like new. Had to shrink a couple spots on the doors and work the rear wheel arch a bit but now I can lay a straight edge down the side and it's flat. Smile and kept the filler very thin.

The right and rear are straight. Nose almost done. Now on to the left side. Lot less work on the left.

Right side and rear are done. Nose almost, found it wasn't the correct shape under the left headlight.

Left door just needs a skim over where I worked.

Left side is a problem. Looks good with a 2' straight edge but a 5' one shows the long waves. Only about 1/16" deep over 3' so not sure they would even show. To take them out will take some time...

Curious if you're using guide coat during the blocking. I love that stuff especially on long panels. It helps me so much when I'm blocking and my hands and fingers are numb from the sanding! Laughing

One of the biggest things I hate is when high spots pop up. Some are not easy to get lowered.

Not yet. Just getting the filler smooth. By feel and straight edge. Once that's done I will start priming and blocking.

The high spots are a pain. Have had good luck shrinking them with the welder though.

Long side strait. Feel much better now Smile

Wasn't as bad as I thought. The side has a slight bow out at the belt line making the waves seem bigger with strait edge. Found a "strait edge" with a slight curve... 1/16" over 4'. looked much better.

Marked the low spots and applied a thin layer of filler. Quick sand to get the high spots off and mark the low spots again. 3 rounds and the strait edge lays flat all over.

Just need a thin skim to make it smooth.

Nose and hatch done tonight also.

Long side smooth.

Put a skim coat over and sanded 95% of it off. I use a 16" board with 40 grit and I don't press to hard. Makes it nice and flat. Just a bit more to sand at the bottom.

After I will go over it with 100 grit and prime.

Will need to do a full skim coat on the left door. More wave than I want to take out with primer.

Bottom done except a few bits like the engine lid header.

Made a 24" high platform to work on the roof. Could be a little higher but works. Roof is not bad but there will be a bit in the center rear that may not come out perfect. It is not stable enough to smooth. Think I would make a mess if I try to stabilize it by shrinking a spot. Don't think it will show and will be under the roof rack. Feels quit smooth anyway.

And the roof. As much fun as expected. Smile

Quite smooth but looks like it will need a skim coat all over.

Looking good! If it's too good you may not want to drive it once it's done.

Thanks

I will be driving it and I won't be worrying about a little damage. Smile Its going to happen anyway and I don't have a problem with it looking used.

I can't get over the 40 grit. That's like a floor sander's belt.

40 grit with a long board makes it quick and easy to get things flat. Filling the sanding scratches is easy compared to getting the perfect shape. Cuts down on the block sanding later.

Still on the roof.

I ended up fixing the floppy bit. I tried not to but somehow I found myself inside with a hammer and...

Worked the metal a bit and got it stable enough to apply some filler. Roof is straight now and some is smooth. Just need to finish the skim coat and it will be ready for primer.
