Hi all,

I just received delivery of two front door lock assemblies from EIS Parts, left and right, for our '63 Bus. The left (driver's) one looks correct:

But the right (passenger's) looks dead wrong:

What the HELL is that hook-like piece on the right lock assembly?! Why would the manufacturer for EIS produce a part that's so significantly different for the left and right sides? And does that difference present any problems with operation of the '63 ice pick Right-side outside handle?

Our bus is currently at the headliner shop, so I can't test fit this right lock assembly to see if it works.

Apologies for my lack of knowledge in this regard-- I'm still learning everything about how these cars are configured. I grew up with our bus, but never had anything to do with its maintenance during those years. So I'm only learning it all, now.

Thanks for your help. This information will assist in determining what I do next with EIS, be it return the part, or try to modify it if I must to work correctly for my needs.

Passenger side door should be non-locking in that it can only lock from the inside with the handle positioned forward; there should not be a tumbler-style lock from exterior.

Ah, thanks 62DoKaGuy-- Now that makes sense. Really appreciate learning about that. So the "hook-like" appendage on the right-side lock assembly is by design, in preventing ability to lock from the outside.

As long as it works correctly, fine by me. I've waited 6 long years in this restoration, since the project was started, and am eager to finally get to bloody assembly. The delays and parts concerns are driving me crazy...

Thanks though for setting this journeyman straight!
