Hi all! I’ve searched everywhere I can think of to get information on installing the steering damper on my ‘74 Thing. My friend and I tried for a long time to fit the end o lf the damper into the tierod bushing, but it just will not go. Anybody else ever have this problem? Am I just not getting my the angle right? Getting very frustrated. Lots of videos on installing in Beetles, but not the Thing.
Thanks for any help!

It should be straightforward.
Maybe this photo helps a little, it's a point of view you wouldn't normally get because the fuel tank is in the way.

Thank you! I’ll be heading out to the garage to try again. I should be able to do it without taking the gas tank out, correct? |

I took the tank off when I did mine... why would you like to do it with the tank on... taking it on an off is super easy....

I replaced my damper on my Karmann Ghia a few weeks ago. Extremely easy job. No need to pull the gas tank in my opinion. Took less than 20 minutes. Just make sure to have really good light to see what your doing. _________________ Marc
