My bus has a set of safari's on it. My issue is they are touching on the bottoms. They have done this for as long as I have had the bus. I know that early safari's have a hinge that is closer to the frame than the later ones. My question is how close. I have looked on here but I don't see a side by side or even a measurement. I think mine are late and I need early. They are also the v shaped ones.

I too am wondering as to the difference in hinge location, and whether as someone else has said, in the later busses with the recess the hinge is not symmetric and is slightly angled on the frame.
I have NOS early frames but a late bus and am considering relocating the hinges.
Anyone? _________________ the invisible and the non existent look very much alike |

Looks like late style to me.
See 15th post is this thread, made by member NOS PARTS...
Safari Frames - early and late - the difference?

Don't relocate hinges... sell them to me... or trade them for later hinge style + cash. I believe earlier are harder to find. There's brief discussion about relocating the hinge, in the thread linked above.

Did some measuring today and some trial fitting. WIll keep the frames and source a 1.5 to 2 mm webbing like material, a little thicker than the original stuff. _________________ the invisible and the non existent look very much alike |

I believe it is a sealant/cushion for the hinge to body interface. I have some old "friction tape" that I use when possible. I use a hole punch for the screws. And it is tacky so it doesn't move around when installing. I had the remnants of the OG stuff and it matches well. I use it for sealing the overhead vent cover also. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon
