Thanks for the links.
I'm doing gas for the stove and heater, just because the appliances are cheap. At some point that may change.
I am looking into a Dometic, but only if I can get a deal on the right size one. Until then, conventional cooler.. Which works with my barely perishable diet anyway.
I don't know that a pure sign wave inverter is nessisary for a cooler? Either way I'm not investing in one yet..
Lighting right now is full LED With some strip lights and a dimming switch. _________________ '71 Deluxe Bus - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659421&highlight= |

Kinda what you were thinking with the strip lights? I honestly am not a huge fam of them.. Yet. I love that I've had them on 100% brightness for hours with pretty much 0% draw but the color is so... Hospital. And it hurts the eyes. We will see.

look up warm LED lighting its a 3400k light instead of 5k or 6k like hospitals. you will enjoy them MUCH more. yellow light like a standard incandescent
move the hospital lights where they belong....the engine compartment. your gonna thank me later.
read you engine thread, and this one. love the bus, definitely wanna see it in person soon. when are you coming up north to PDX again? soon as you do, we need to connect in salem area. got a buddy you need to meet and talk with, and i wanna see the bus.

I learned this, have been searching for a warmer strip light for the LEDs. Weird thing is these lights said "warm" when I bought them..
I'm in Bend right now, I could come to Salem easy enough.. _________________ '71 Deluxe Bus - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659421&highlight= |

Ya know, it's been okay.. I am back at my parents place finishing up some small things on the bus, and am going to get a vw bus from the engine builder instead of a refund.. I am thinking this is the bus I will snag.. Should be able to make my money back..
Thanks!!

Thanks! Means a ton
Throughout the thread I have used a combination of my pro setup (Canon 5d mk2, GoPro Hero 5) and also my Android phone, LG G5.
Heres some of the ones taken on my Camera.
Second one here is from Descend On Bend in Central Oregon.

Yes, It's already been sold to build my new engine.
Built by Soran Anderson in Santa Rosa, Ca.
It's a 1776 that I bought new Dellorto dual carbs for, and am getting a stainless steel exhaust for.. It will have oil temp and cylinder head temp sensors on it this time.. Should be badass! _________________ '71 Deluxe Bus - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659421&highlight= |

Update on 1776 build.
I also got my Dellorto dual carbs and went with R2C oil less air filters.
I think I'm going to go with a 270 deg duration cam with .33 lobe lift but am considering going less duration..

Update on engine build.
Crank assembly together and balanced. Case tapped for full flow and oil pressure sensor. Heads are done. Waiting on CHT Sensor to machine the head for that, then assemble. 2 week estimate?

Slowly assembling the longblock,
piece my piece. I've modified my front tin for dual carbs, patches up holes and also restored the one year only tin for the firewall side. Waiting on a shipment from busdepot including my new fuel pump and battery tray. I patched up some holes in the engine bay as well..
All new seals on engine bay, and prepping for battery tray replacement.
Also replaced a ripped cv boot, installed the cylinder head temp sensor, new Pulley, thermostat, and flaps.
The primered area used to be a hole someone cut, and 2 of the 3 holes on the firewall I patched using metal plugs

Tonight I finished my longblock except for the fuel pump..
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to share.
I re-assessed everything I have learned having done this 8-10 times before. Every single thing I have done with this build, I consulted thesamba or did other peer- critiqued research.
This engine has the thermostat and flaps fully hooked up. It has the doghouse oil cooler with the hoover bit in place. It has all of the tins, and is set full flow with an external oil filter. (Possibly also an oil cooler and fan in the future)
I am going to be using the Parker blue lines for the full flow and push lok fittings.
I have welded standard flanges onto the heater boxes and header.
I have dellorto carbs which Im waiting to install until the engine is in the bus.

Best of luck with your motoring future!
Since you asked, I noticed your flanged exhaust components where the donuts used to live... The aluminum heads can expand a bit with heat, and the joint will be stressed a little. I think the factory donuts are superior only in this regard, that they might actually slide a few thousandths on a fully warm engine. Maybe. Either way, if you end up with sealing problems on those joints, check out th CB Performance graphite compression exhaust gaskets. I use them there on my bus (and have reused them in an emergency) and they expand and contract far better than any paper or metal gasket did for me.
Sorry for the chunk of text, but exhaust leaks on a new engine suck!

Thanks a ton!!
I LOVE the idea of those CB compression gaskets, and of course I finalized my last order with CB a week ago.. Can't think of everything I guess! If I have leaks, I will bite the bullet on the shipping for those gaskets.
I am thinking expansion wont be an issue.. My header is quite thin steel and I can flex it more than 1/4 an inch outward or side to side just due to quality. I hate those donut flanges with every bone in my body, they never seat right, they leak, they fail quickly, and they get in the way of the mustache bar..
Should be an install this weekend, video coming soon! _________________ '71 Deluxe Bus - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659421&highlight= |

New video is up. I didn't post one yet of installing the engine but it is in the works. Anyway, the new engine is installed and I am driving the bus in brake in period.
