Hello,
My Name is Gilles Cardone and i live in Luxembourg.
I purchased my Bug in 2014. I wanted an early Bug with Ragtop and i found this june 1960 Bug. The previous owner disassembled it in 2002 to restore it. For some reason ar another, he left the puzzle untouched for 12 years... until i bought it.
Here are some pictures of the pick up.
The car was very complete. There were 6 doors and 3 1200 40 hp engines.

Looks like you've got yourself quite a project there! Seems like a pretty solid shell with no readily apparent accident damage or major rust...at least from what can be seen in the photos. Good luck and keep the photos coming. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

Hi everybody,
The first big work were the floor pans. At the beginning i wanted to make some patch repair, but then i decided to weld in new good quality floor pans.
the old rusty floor pan
removing the floor pan with archaic methods
floor pan removed
placing and fitting the new floor pan... and lunch time for me and my neighbour Roman, on our stylish table!
The new floor pans were welded in:
... and some nice chassis paint...

Hello,
Here are some pictures about the rolling chassis.
I have replaced the brake shoes, lines and cylinders. I converted from single to double brake circuit. Also new clutch, new gaskets for the transaxle and new gaskets for the engine.
It's not the original 36 hp engine and transmission, but that's ok for me. It's a 12 volt 40hp engine with good compression.
First test drive

Hello, i am posting some pictures about the body work.
The body had a lot of rust:
Heater channels, 4 wheel archs, rear ends on both sides, body mounts rear both sides, tank support replacement, panel under spare tire replacement, and some welding patchs here and there.
The most difficult for me were the wheel archs. In general i had more welding work than in thought in the beginning... but that's nothing new for you out there

Hello, these are the pictures of the finished rear right end:
Then i cut out the damaged tank support, and i replaced it with a better one.

Looks great! The pan is beautiful all painted. Bodywork coming along nicely as well. Look forward to getting started on my Nov. 61 Ragtop.
What color was yours originally? What color are you going to paint it?
Cheers,
Jeremy |

Thanks Sylvester,
It was originally L440 flint grey and i will keep that original color. It's a very light grey, but i'd like to give it a personal note with the interior and ragtop color that contrasts with the fint grey. (brick red ... or dark blue ).

If you get a chance could you upload your pictures to the samba gallery? I can't see any of them.
I'd love to check out your project. _________________ 1976 Westy

That is a great color! The accent will make a nice touch. Look forward to seeing it evolve. |

Hello everybody
Here are the pictures of the wheel well welding (or what is the exact name for that?). I couldn't find any replace panel so i did it myself.

Hello,
Here are my first painting attempts (L440 flint grey) with single stage paint in my garage
Due to neon light , it appears whiter than it is. Tomorrow i'll post better pics with natural light.

Nice one. I have a 1960 Flint Grey ragtop project as well. I will eventually get around to doing it, so I'm looking forward to seeing your project develop. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.
