2 page ad cut from 1972 Life magazine. I love the wit of their advertisements. I have about 50 or so VW ads for buses and bugs and squarebacks that were cut from Life magazine and the Saturday Evening Post. Years ranging from about 1963 to 1977. The ads are amazing. VW had a very good marketing team. I intend to scan them all and place them in the appropriate categories.

I like these as well. You can source life magazines on eBay as they sell in lots sometimes for a good deal. David cropsey wrote a book which tells the years and specific weeks in which the ads appeared, there are hundreds. Also check Look magazine for ads. To see more here go to the forum memorabilia and toys up in the stickies is printed matter.

Funny how they assumed you'd be trading in your car in "3 or 4 years".

If they only knew.

My favorite was the one from 1969...

It had a picture of the apollo lunar module..

The tagline read

"It's ugly, but it gets you there."

Then, the VW logo in the lower right hand corner.

Nothing else.

Nuff said.

Probably could not get that HR today..

Best one ever - white space ad.

No point in showing you the new VW - it looks the same.

DDB was/is brilliant.
