Making some progress on this one. Working back to front. As you can see, lots of rust.
Did some cutting
Some Welding
Took lots of measurements, angles, and locked in OG location prior to cutting
Cut out the junk and carefully fitted the new section.
Not welded, but fitted and perfect
Up next, rear apron
Both sides done

Also been cleaning up my splitcase. |
Is that really the same transmission you showed at disassembly? Egads- the huge amount of corrosion powder in the bellhousing! How did you clean that out? Did you treat the cleaned off surface with anything?

Is that an autocraft rear apron? You will have to let us know how she fits. I am impressed with the quality but haven't tackled fitting it just yet. Car is looking great.... Although I didn't love seeing your bus in the classifieds _________________ 1952 Zwitter

No the rear is from Virtanen. Fit and quality is top notch. I've gotten quite a few parts from him recently. All are great and fast shipping.
Unfortunately I only have so much garage space and can't park projects outside in my neighborhood. I have my eye on something else so something has to go and it won't be my wife's car |

Hey, Bill...good to see you at the bottleworks. Sorry I’m just now responding to this. This one won’t be making any events for a while unless the event takes place in my garage |

I have a couple other projects that have slowed the progress on this car but here are a couple pics of the latest work:
Both doors have bottom rot requiring complete replacement. I’ll add some welding pics when that happens
Here’s the right side and a little work getting the door to fit.
I put it on the chassis to see how things were lining up and to allow better door fitting. Long way to go but lots of progress from where it started

Amazing work so far and hats off to your persistence..seeing the condition of yours when starting out makes me feel better about mine..rusty,and need of the repairs in most areas you are tackling.
I have a few questions for you..
What was the media of blasting agent used on your body,sand?..if so anything special about it..black gold? one can go cross eyed and have a million opinions searching the "paint/body" forum here..
I too need to graft a lower donor area on my passenger door, was yours from an Oval or a later door?
The pans look fantastic and it looks like you went with Klassicfab channels, did you by chance dryfit them to the chassis before welding in to the body?I''m looking for measurements on how far the front should stick out past the napolean's hat area and how far they should sit forward of the rear cross braces where the rear firewall/body crossbraces rest
Keep up the good work, looking forward to more updates _________________ '68 Campmobile-Pedro

Thanks! So I do not know the exact brand of sand type abrasive but the shop I took it to took care not to get too aggressive so nothing would warp.
The door bottoms are Virtanen and channels are KF. I didn’t do any dry fitting but took lots of measurements before cutting out the originals. I can get you some measurements soon. Good luck! |

Glad to see some progress again!
The fenders look really nice, when I was working on my 54 they weren't available back then and it took a lot of time and patience to fix year correct ones. It will save you a lot of time and from the pics they look really nice. Please let us know how they fit and how the running board area looks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you want to hammer out the two dimples in the buckets?
Can't wait to see your car in paint., L213 is such a beautiful and yet so rare color!
Best regards,
Jan |
