Wondering if could have help for a 1999 Eurovan Camper.
There is a new onset of CEL error code, after a major engine service for preventative maintenance. To try to minimize dropping engine, all the things were done at once in that area:
Engine/transmission removed for:
-Timing chains/gears/guides full replacement
-New gruvenparts 'crack pipe' coolant pipe w/ drain plug
-New metal impeller water pump
-New thermostat/housing
-Some cracked vacuum hoses corrected.
-New spark plugs, new wires, new coil.
-Installed GoWesty transmission cooler system.
And then the engine/transmission was reinstalled with all the sensors, etc reattached.
When put all this back together, in addition to the P1582, it was also then throwing P300,P303,P304, which is general misfire and misfires to cylinders 3 and 4. Since clue of 3 and 4, this was traced down to the new coil. It was a defective new part from VW. The P300,P303,P304 resolved by putting back the prior working coil. So now down to just the P1582 code alone (Idle adaption at limit).
What has been tried so far:
-Removing and cleaning the throttle body.
-Checking vacuum hoses.
-The ignition gas-pedal procedure to reset the transmission learning.
-Clearing the P1582 code with ScanGuage II. It seems that clearing when running seems to keep it off quite long, and it comes back when restart the car.
Guesses on what to do next:
-VAG-COM: to force a throttle body adjustment as per:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Throttle_Body_Alignment_%28TBA%29
-A sensor somewhere to look to ensure is pushed in all the way, etc?
-Wait and see if corrects itself after a few days of driving?
-Disconnecting and reconnecting the car's battery cables for 10 min to allow the fault to be cleared?
-Other (I don't know what I don't know)?
Any advice welcomed!
Best wishes |

I would think vacuum leak. I'm assuming all was well before the new parts? Not to instill paranoia but I hope the chain/cam timing is ok. _________________ Why do it? Because you can.

Fixed at last, and now van is restored to full mechanical fitness ready to roll.
The VAG-COM device didn't do anything helpful.
Replacing the fuel injectors solved everything. I had considered putting them in when doing the rest of the restoration, but got it done now. Like a new car down the road, what an upgrade. I am aware that can clean old ones, but would rather just have things done for the long term.
Anyhow, closing this thread with the answer in this case, in case someone else has a similar code and the usual suspects aren't solving it. |

Wow, did you do the work yourself? Big job.
Now go put 100K on this thing. _________________ Been on the samba so long I remember petting that dog to see VWs, WYHI, and green bug girl.

Alas just ordered the parts. Labour work done by owner-operator 2-man small VW mechanic in the neighbourhood who works out of shop in his home. Did great work, and backed his work up.
For the 100K, so far so good! |
