|
|
Hi,
1952 Split Beetle, original engine
When we start the engine, the oil pressure light does not light up. I believe it should light up initially.
We checked the connection to the sensor (by grounding the cable) and it worked and the bulb lights up.
So, we assume we have to change the sensor or at least fix the sensor. Given a time constraint that I have, I would like to get a sensor to replace -- anyone know which is the correct sensor to use for a '52 Split?
I've come across various similar items.
The photo shoes the area below the distributor.
Thanks for your help.

Check with VW NOS and he might have one in stock. |

While you're searching for a replacement, could you maybe take the sensor off and work it a bit while spraying some brake cleaner and then some lubricant in the hole? It might have years of some crud buildup and just needs some cleaning. |

If you remove the terminal screw, there should be a small standard screw inside for adjusting the tension of the spring and thus what PSI the light comes on. Might be worth backing it out a couple of turns, screwing it back in the same amount of turns and see if it works then.
Wolfsburg West sells a screw terminal oil pressure switch, although it doesn't look exactly the same.

both the red charging/cooling light and the green oil light should light up when the ignition is turned on and go out when the engine starts to run. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut
