I owe a big thank you to Samba Member Tyzel out of Oregon

This one?
I can email you pics of how it looked when I found it about 8 years ago, me and a buddy dragged it out about 3 years ago or so. Glad it's finally found a good home Earl! |
Not only did he send a bunch of pictures but he also told me the story behind the DC. It meant as much to me as the pictures did.
So the first few pics shows how tyzel found it 8 years ago and where it had been sitting for 15-20yrs according to old man he bought it from. The last pictures are of it being rescued 4 years ago.
tyzel quickly sold to a friend and that friend quickly sold to a VW Restoration shop in Oregon. That shop did most of the work as far as getting it running and driving they clean it up, found correct gates and sold it to guy I got it from. When It got to California most of metal work was done then and it was lowered at this time also.
So now the two different colors of dove blue makes sense now. The shop that got it going must have did a touch up on paint or it was repainted a long time ago. I've yet to speak to that shop. I did look them up and they are around still and I have seen many pictures of DC on there facebook page. I will try to make contact soon.
Here is a picture of DC when it left Oregon.

Looking good Earl!! Just kept at it and it will get there for sure.
As far as the repaint, I know the shop up here did the wheel well repairs, roof repair and hinge repair. They also stripped the white paint that was on the upper body back to dove blue. It should be mostly OG paint as far as I know but if you get ahold of Morrie at that shop he might be able to tell you more about the paint. Not sure why they didn't blend the dove blue better on the wheel wells. |

OK a few things have changed since last post. I was sitting around last Sunday night about 7pm and suddenly I had a crazy idea of putting a motor in DC ,so I put the word out to a good friend Sergio what my plans were and within an hour he was at my house helping, buy 8:30 pm we had motor in and fired.
Here's the DC already bossing big sister around and taking up all space in garage
After getting motor in, we noticed that there were a few electrical issues that needed attending too. after adjusting clutch and shifter and being about 11pm I decided to work on those things the next day Monday labor day.
So a call was sent out again to another GREAT friend 10ft Doug. It wasn't five minutes into call before Dougfriend said come on down and I'll take care of those electrical problems. I thought this would be a good shake down cruise to get to know the DC. I wasn't worried at all about motor and drove the 45 miles south to his house.
After a few beers and dougfriends close inspection of the DC he went right to work on issues.
Dougfriend got all my light working headlight, parking, brake and turn signals
Check out original fuse label.
I still have to replace bulbs in speedo but I will do that this week or next trip to Dougs house.
We.. I mean Doug replaced turn signal wiring harness with a new WW one he used all the new guts and saved OG housing.
Here is a picture Doug took of me driving away.
It goes without saying if, It wasn't for Dougfriends help and vast knowledge of Vw"s I wouldn't be driving this DC.
THANK YOU 10' DOUG! _________________
