so here's the latest horrorific pic..
REPLACE THAT WHITE PLASTIC BULKHEAD FUEL FITTING NOW>>>>>
and the 3" stub of likely OEM fuel injection hose on the back side that couples with the black nylon hose..
also better support that metal fuel filter, it's as heavy as a full pint of beer..

Welcome. sweet van. the 85 being only one less good than the superior 84.
That filter should have a hefty steel clamp on it.
Make sure the fuel lines are 30r9 or better, anything else will harden with new fuel in a couple years.
(id keep the prefilter, why not?)
Double check all fuel clamps after a week or so.
also test to be sure radiator fan is working on both speeds.
feel fuses to see if any are getting hot from time to time.
Clean grounds under dash.
Make sure lines directly on fuel injectors are replaced and consider a blazecut fire arrest system.

Otherwise check the faq section regarding tyres, pressures, etc. The washer fill is under the driver floormat.
You will find that even though they are on the left coast VANCAFE will get parts to you quicker than the one not on the left coast.

plan to downshift on hills in advance and go slow, have fun. Dont push it. pack light.
Welcome to life in the slow lane. perfect for a new england tour in fall. |

I have an 85 weekender also.
And I agree the interior is very versital, we do all our cooking outside since a smelly interior is an oasis for pack rats and mice.

Welcome to the team! In my very biased opinion, the '85 Wolfsburg Westy is one of the finest Vanagon models ever made and is a great platform to build upon.
EDIT: Wait, I see square headlights in one of your photos above...Are you sure it's not an '86, or did somebody change those lights from round to square? Have any pictures of the engine bay? _________________ Joe T.

yeah, that's only part of it..
and FYI that zip tie will not forever hold that PINT GLASS sized filter FULL of fuel. then it will drop down in all it's heavy glory and tug on the hose that's slipped over the black nylon tube. creating a fuel spray that is both uncool and dangerous.
AMHIK
give that a proper support strap
and follow the fuel flow from source to reservoir
ie. out from the tank fully around the engine and back to the tank..
slightly less dangerous after it leaves the pressure regulator though. _________________
