It is currently at the shop and they are going through it. A handful of items were replaced by the previous owner.

Waves from Upstate (Syracuse) NY

have them change the fuel lines and remove the Nylon fuel line bulk head fitting if it is still there. often the rubber line BEHIND the firewall at the bulkhead fitting is OE. and about to rupture..

also replace/update the "H" pipe at the coolant bottle with a metal version. the plastic WILL fail w/o any prior seepage or notice..

FYI, the Upstate vw camping group is camping at Glimmerglass SP near Cooperstown Sept 23-24 Pmail me for details

Welcome! I'm newer to the community as well. Love my (tintop) weekender, and this group has been super helpful on many accounts already.

yeah, that's only part of it..
and FYI that zip tie will not forever hold that PINT GLASS sized filter FULL of fuel. then it will drop down in all it's heavy glory and tug on the hose that's slipped over the black nylon tube. creating a fuel spray that is both uncool and dangerous.
AMHIK Rolling Eyes
give that a proper support strap
and follow the fuel flow from source to reservoir
ie. out from the tank fully around the engine and back to the tank..

slightly less dangerous after it leaves the pressure regulator though.

Welcome to the team! In my very biased opinion, the '85 Wolfsburg Westy is one of the finest Vanagon models ever made and is a great platform to build upon.

EDIT: Wait, I see square headlights in one of your photos above...Are you sure it's not an '86, or did somebody change those lights from round to square? Have any pictures of the engine bay?

I have an 85 weekender also.
And I agree the interior is very versital, we do all our cooking outside since a smelly interior is an oasis for pack rats and mice.

Ditch the prefilter and use Oetiker pinch clamps.
