Looks good. Did you reset the toe in? If not, you need to get after it, or it'll eat the front tires off it.
I normally do it with a piece of 2by4, and mark where the centers of the tires are on the back side first, then move my board to the front and see which way I need to move the tie rods.
You could also just take it to an alignment shop, and have them re-set the toe. |
Thanks Bob, I'll adjust the alignment once a drop the rear end down. She dosen't get driven all that much at the moment. _________________ '65 Karmann Ghia

So, for me, tunes in a car is as important as comfortable seats or a smooth idle. The squareback is notorious for poor stereo placement and support. Here is what I went with.
A marine stereo housing to support the deck and a couple easy custom kick panels behind the carpet to support the front 6 1/2" speakers.
I am not really sure, but it'll be in there for a while. What do you all think?

You might want to look at what W1K1 did in the rear of his 65 Square. He built some stands for his 6 by 9's that mount right to the rear wheel wells. That set up doesn't eat any usable space, and you can hear the sound from the speakers. The bonus is that they don't slide around in the back of the car.
Otherwise, it's looking good inside. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I did see those wheel-well boxes, very clever. I am running 6 x 9s in the rear as well, but standard box enclosures with Velcro strips to mesh with the carpet. They've stayed in place thus far. _________________ '65 Karmann Ghia

The Squareback sits much better; two inner splines in the front and one inner spline in the rear.

So, I got her running and stopping, new shoes, checked out all her electical and everything is working.
Ordered the wrong seat upholstery but the correct ones finally came in.
Original tag in the seat back.
Comfort was the last thing to make sure I could cruise with the wife.
Custom buttons.

OK.......
Next up.... Lose the Monza exhaust and new rear hatch seal along with front hood seal and door seals.
I am getting exhaust fumes into the cab and the rear seal is a mess.
Anyone have experience with Tri-Mil ceramic coated muffler? _________________ '65 Karmann Ghia

Just about any exhaust that fits a type 3 is better than the 4 tip "monza" muffler (even an empi set up).
Look at the rear hatch seal, engine cover seal, and the small strip across seal, and note their condition. If any are bad, they need to be replaced. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Installed the new Tri-Mil ceramic coated muffler today and replaced the chopped up rear hatch seal.
Losing the Empi 4-tip monza style muffler, the new set-up actually sounds much better and the difference in power is noticeable.
I also added a lighter for the all important smart phone charging.
Installed switch and relay for the amber fog lights.

Took the SB down to see my father. Longest trip since her resurrection, 90 miles round-trip and no issues. Dad had a 72 Squareback, the car I learned to drive with, and reminisced fondly of his. Noted that mine was missing A/C though.

New engine lid seal and a new seal across the deck floor at the rear installed today, little by little. _________________ '65 Karmann Ghia

Nope..... time to start on the '65 Ghia I have. No more $$ in this one until the Ghia is on the road. Then maybe a rebuild. _________________ '65 Karmann Ghia
