There's some rust around the washer bottle area. It looks a little major and I don't know what to do about it.

Also there's some on the apron. That I can get from Wolfsbürg west.

And on a side note I fixed this with a panel I got from another member.

When it comes to local rust that is not compromising the integrity of the car you have a couple good choices. You can repair the area and bring it back to good condition. If you choose that route hopefully you find someone who can do it properly. The other choice to to remove the corrosion and repaint what is left to stop the progress.

You can just leave it too, the "patina look," but unless you keep the car dry it will continue to progress. Enough rust there could compromise the front body support.

I would poke around and get the all the rot out, then cut it out and weld a new piece in. Won't have to worry about it anymore.

Drill out the spot welds, if you can find them?

sand/blast/kill all the rust, and replace with new steel.

Did you fabricate that piece? If you didn't, where'd you get it from?

Look for donor metal. If you cannot find anything and don't want to try and make it yourself. Klokkerholm makes that piece, well it kinda looks like that piece if the die was not worn out..... Link below:

I'll look for donor metal, that stamping doesn't look very good.

yikes!!! at this point dont do any more repairs until you have inspected everything for rust, then you need to decide if the car is worth fixing or not. you need to head into rust repairs with eyes wide open, this could be big can o worms. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

good luck

The car is definitely worth fixing! This is the only majorly bad area on the car... I've inspected the other side. It wouldn't of been this bad if it wasn't for a PO with a can of undercoating and fiberglass Evil or Very Mad . Tomorrow I'll inspect some more... how would I go about fixing this?

I'll look for some patches or a donor, and thanks! I really love this car, being my first ACVW and being a rarer model.

The last one looks best for me, but it's in California... I'd rather something local. Maybe I'll call up the CTVWA tomorrow and see if any members have what I need.

try a whole new lost inquiring about the part quality, you mkght get more replies that way rather than tagging on your request to this older rust repair post.

good luck PS also do a seacrh on all the bug forums for quality advice from this company, I beleive they make parts for different year bugs, it someone with a newer bug has had good results wkth thismpart (or other parts they make) that would be a good indication that this part is likely good too

of course check out local wreckers for this part too, (used of course, but watch for rust!) and call the vendor and inquire on what thickness steel they use, you dont want this part to be really thin. and ask what the issues are with their warning about shock tower mount location needing modification. you dont want any surprises.

good luck
