IDF Manifolds have a "tumbled" finish that is not very exciting,The area where the nuts set are not even flat, and can come loose as the nuts are only making a partial contact. Thank You CB Performance for offering Big Beefs, as I prefer a equal shot from carb to cylinder with no differences like the offset versions have. For $82 I am NOT complaining, Just offering a way to make them even more awesome.

I wanted to give some ideas for people that would like to clean up there manifolds and make a better surface for tightening down on the heads. The result is easy to clean, simply functions nicer, and looks a lot better. This only cost you about $20 of polishing compound and 3-4 hours of your time.

I see a lot of painted/powder coated manifolds which tells me that people are bored and desperate for a change. I for one am sick up tightening down nuts on that horrible leftover un-even cast surface hoping that the nut will grind itself a flat surface. That's Ghetto!

I use a flap wheel on a angle grinder to clean up the whole manifold.
Then I use a nice wide file to flatten out the nut seating area.
Then I use green "Jackson Lea" polishing compound on a bench buffer. It takes some time but to me its worth it. Don't get tempted to use ANY of the green compound that is available at normal stores, as it takes 3 times as long and you will get frustrated. Jackson Lea compound can be ordered online. If your doing this for the first time, learn from my mistakes.

Here is as ordered CB Big-Beef, and next to it one that I completed:

Here you can see the as ordered surface, and next to it my completed one. Notice on the "out of the box" surface that the casting seam interrupts how much space you have to tighten the nut. I grind this down with the flap wheel.

Now, if you complete two manifolds, you should have used up two buffing wheels and made a complete mess all over the place, and turned almost any of your exposed skin black, so fyi make sure to wear a mask and eye protection, because sh!t will fly everywhere.

And if you want some big beefs...

You can buy a lot more space by using 3/8" Jet Nuts.
