have a line on a 60's vert and it's sight unseen atm and was wondering worse case scenario if the channels in fact do need to be replaced is it possible to do this without removing the body??

I've never taken a body off and would rather not completely restore this thing as it appears in decent shape...

thx

If it needs the support channel, more than likely it will need heater channel repair or replacement. The flange with holes on the support channel goes between the pan & the heater channel, you will need to lift the body to gain access to remove (cutting, grinding, drilling, welding) & replace.

Can do ..yes.. would I ever want to hell no..

Heater channels are welded into the main body with lots more welds and lots more support than Sedans..

Even if you simply luck up to just need to replace the rails.. lifting the body off is required.
Chances are.. it will need at least heater channel lower plates too..

Brace the body properly, lift off the chassis and replace whats bad is still the best way.

Lots more that makes a Convertible tick than just the lopped off hard roof..

And IF you were to try it with the body on, you better have some serious skills. I am with everyone else, take the body off - you'll find more rust hidden away out of sight. Check out my thread ....
