Do I hear echos of chants of "Lock her up!" after all these years?
Is "refusing to move" something like "she persisted"?
Inspiring, as well as depressing to see how little we have truly progressed.
Thoughts for this day 65 years later. |

1984 Bhopal India 250,000 + people injured, 10,000 + killed when Union Carbide chemical plant releases poison gas. To date nobody ever made to answer for this, the company simply hauled ass.
1979 11 people killed at a Who concert in Ohio. Trampled when crowd mistook warming up as concert starting and rushed the doors.
Today is also Ozzie Osbounre’s birthday.
Getting ahead of the curve, December 5th 1933 marks the end of prohibition in the United States. Have a drink this 😀 |

Fewer and fewer survivors. But we are all touched by that event, and the new world that came after.
Last year I visited the Arizona Memorial for the first time. I cried.

My grandfather was there (Pearl Harbor) on the 7th. Never said a word about it.
Years later he bought a german car "because those Germans, they understand engineering". _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

DECEMBER 09, 1917...
Jerusalem surrenders to British troops...
On the morning of December 9, 1917, after Turkish troops move out of the region after only a single day's fighting, officials of the Holy City of Jerusalem offer the keys to the city to advancing British troops.
A part of WW 1 history that most don't know about. Some say that the British division of the Middle East after the war contributed greatly to the problems there today. _________________ "Someday the world is gonna be populated by nothing but Volkswagens'" Corporal Klairvoy |

The British and American coup d’etat In 1953 arguably led to the September 2001 attacks on the US.
Truman saw this and stopped it. Ike got played by the Red Scared Chicken Hawks Brothers named Dulles and went forward.
Probably the biggest foreign policy blunder post WWII _________________ .ssS! |

Dec 21st 1970 President Nixon meets with the king Elvis. Wouldn’t you like to have been a fly on wall for that meeting? Unfortunately the meeting was not taped for posterity because Dick hadn’t installed the system that lead to his demise. https://allthatsinteresting.com/elvis-and-nixon |

What is remarkable, at least to me, is that this event was announced during football’s Super bowl XIV, held on Dec. 21st, not some time two months later in February... Oh well, super bowl used to be about a football game and the teams, not about advertisers and halftime antics far removed from the game. I quit watching decades ago. Shame how much has been sold out and lost _________________ Jack Staggs

I'm from Pittsburgh, and Steelers beat the Rams in SB XIV, and my brother attended (at the Rose Bowl). That was January 20, 1980.
You've got facts wrong, bud !!!! But agree that it used to be just a championship game, not primarily a drawn-out party and TV commercial event. SB XIV was played in the Rose Bowl, started in daylight and ended in darkness.
SBXIII (also won by the Steelers) was a daytime game. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
