Thanks or the offer, Bill! I've got 3 spare AARs, for some reason, and one of them appears to be working correctly.
Just have to get in there and replace it.

How's Blue coming along? Any luck with the dash and FI installs yet?
You can't blame snow and cold weather for not working on her. Laughing
Installing all the FI parts is a lot like building a 3D jigsaw puzzle... If a piece isn't installed correctly or in the right order, it doesn't look right, so ya take some pieces off til it goes together and looks right.
Whenever I have to put all the FI parts back on an engine, I look at the pic of Wildthing's 2.0l he assembled. And Ratwell has some good illustrations.

Crying or Very sad Have"not got on the job for several weeks- been down with bad ankle injury/infection and the accompanying antibiotics that have made life miserable. Did manage to get the middle slide roller on the door installed.

Did get started on the next T'4 inside though. Just need a cam gear and can button her up.

Hate this rain though- I want a refund. This is not the weather I'm paying for.

Where bouts in New Mexico are you?

I won't be moving to Albuquerque until April or May.
Until then, I'm in Orlando.

Are there any van/bus groups in or around Albuquerque?
I'm missing having fellow ACVW geeks to drink beer with.

I too, long for buddy-talking bus nonsense for hours on end. I don't really have any guys local, which is a shame. When you have guys to talk to regularly about your VW projects, it ironically helps when making those big purchases as if knowing they know how vital and important said purchases would be, it's only a reasonable choice but to finalize these purchases.

But for years now, I'm stuck in the digital wonderland of the Samba, talking to you knuckleheads... Laughing

AFAIK TheSamba doesn't monetize our personal data or spread state sponsored disinformation. It's not doing too well as a social network.

FINALLY! Laughing
The new Cheap Chinese Diesel Parking Heater is installed and working great.
Since it's in the 70s here, it's difficult to test its full potential, but it pumps out a bunch of heat fairly quietly. I'm pleased with it. Dancing

To make space for it, and to replace a deteriorating cabinet, I designed and built this...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The little black vent at the bottom is the air inlet for the heater, with another vent on the opposite side for the heat. The vent swivels similar to the ones on the dash, so it can be aimed toward the cab or the bed.
Also I chose to install a USB port. It's the little black piece peeking out between the drawer and the top.

The heating unit itself...

...is securely mounted to the floor with the fuel line and combustion air inlet/outlet tubes routed thru the floor.

Now it's time to get out and find someplace cool to camp!
Unfortately, I'm starting a new job soon, and won't be able to make the journey to BBB as I had hoped. But BBB 2021 is coming!

The cabinet looks awesome and what great platform to customize or build on for these kind of comfort devices. It definitely gets cold when you least expect it and now you’ll be ready. Neat project, thanks for sharing.

Nice work Kent. Looks like a clean install with nice touches with the cabinet.

Nice cabinet and heater installation. Time for a road trip up here in the Adirondacks to see how it really works Laughing

Egads! Yeah, a road trip there in January would definitely be a good trial run. Shocked
But I think this reptilian Sambanista will have to find a little warmer climate.

KentPS wrote:
I am in need of expert Sambanista advice.

Chloe's engine ran great for the first 3000 miles or so after the rebuild, and still runs well, sort of. She starts, idles and drives at low speeds like normal. But when cruising at 35 mph and higher, she will have an occasional slight bucking/hesitation until I let off the gas a little bit. Most of the time, she will accelerate without that hesitation, but occasionally will buck then too. (I still love the acceleration of this 1800cc engine as compared to the 1700.)

Here's what I've checked:
Vacuum leaks with smoke generator... None found
TSII... Always my nemesis, but tested normal
Timing... 32* at high revs, about 5-6 BTDC at idle
(It idles high, due to a faulty AAR I need to replace. If I set idle at 1000, it take a feather footing for a couple minutes at start up to keep it from dying)
    Dwell... 40*
    EEC diaphragm doesn't leak

What am I missing?
Fuel delivery? Tank checked out clean when I had it out 2 years ago. Filter is replaced every 3000 miles, when I check valves and change oil.
(Hmmmm... I haven't checked fuel pressure yet. That will be my next move. Idea )

Does anyone have any suggestions of what else to check? Thanks guys

Now that the heater and cabinet are installed, I was able to check the points as several Sambanites suggested.
And, yes, you were all correct. Adjusting the points has fixed the hesitation/missing problem. She's driving like a dream again.
Thanks everyone who provided their insight to solve the problem. Dancing

I was able to go camping this weekend about an hour north of Orlando at Blue Springs State Park. I highly recommend it for an overnight adventure. It started out as a plantation in the mid-1800's. But the main draw to this park is the natural springs feeding the St Johns River. Dozens of manatees lazily make the swim up the river to the springs to rest and calve. While their resting place is blocked off from swimmers and boaters, it was amazing to be able to kayak in the river and observe them. While kayaking, we also saw several alligators and tortoises sunning on the shore.

The park only has one campground which is very popular and booked well in advance. I just lucked out by grabbing one that was available on ReserveAmerica.com.

Since this is Florida, each campsites is fairly secluded due to the trees and brush. And it appears as if the bathrooms have very recently been redone, since they were the cleanest I've ever seen in any camp site.

Of course, the best part of camping occurs as the sun goes down...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The new diesel heater didn't get used since it was in the upper 60's at night.
And I learned a valuable lesson when camping in the south... Don't leave the hatch open without a screen. We woke up with a few dozen bites, even with repellent on. And when I turned on the light in the morning, there was a huge swarm on the ceiling.

So if anyone is traveling thru central Florida in their van/bus, this is one stop I give two-thumbs-up, especially in January when the manatees make their stop there.

Just curious about the heater outlet. Doesnt the slider block the heat and risk burning the wood door panel? Is there a vent at the walkthru side as well?

The vent facing the door is the air inlet for the heater. The outlet is on the opposite side of the cabinet. It has a swivel on it to aim the air either toward the cab or toward the cabin.
I’m still waiting for a cool spell to check it out. Gonna be 85* here today.

CarlosZ....
Really wish I could make BBB. But starting a new job this week and can’t get away.

That looks like a wonderful camp site.
I camped in Florida once, in July. It was raining. Rain fly on the tent with 90* weather and damn near equal humidity. One of the worst camping experiences in my books.

I actually enjoy bus camping in the winter months. Less people, cooler weather, the campsites are more secluded and allow you to just chill and be in nature. Cold? Wear a coat. At night, before going to bed, run a heater. I always turned it off. A fear of not waking up in the morning due to a lack of ventilation. I’m not keen on going out by some fumes.

As far as BBB goes, Kent we’re going next year!
