Running a stock 78 FI 2.0 L engine. What are my options for exhaust besides stock? I’ve been shopping around and I’m just seeing a csp python system for bugs only. What can I run besides stock?

(1) how much money do you have set aside for this system?
and
(2) do you need heat?

Around $1,500. And I don’t necessarily need heat.

not a lot of options for that. they are also US-only.
i believe they are part of a series of smog focused design revisions.

most people just retrofit the earlier heater boxes,
then the world is your oyster

that said, i run the Ahnendorp on my 78 and love it .. I am currently replacing the OG heater boxes with a new set of Dansk units to uncork things a bit.

i've tried it both ways .. dansk and og ... had used beat up dansk on it when i bought it .. searched far and wide for nice og heat ...
trashed the dansk, enjoyed the quietness of OG, for awhile,
but now going back to dansk for performance reasons

but most would say the correct answer is to start with a set of '74 heater boxes ... which you can also get new from dansk ..
and then you can have a more of a "header" style exhaust,
instead of an immediate 2-into-1 F-pipe with a U-turn like the 75-78

some would say VW agreed, since they went back to that "style" in 79, albeit with a differently shaped exhaust port.
