Hello,
A fellow bus-owner friend of mine and I recently learned about a large stash of various VW parts. The person who collected these parts is now deceased and a close relative is overseeing the large, multi-acre lot and all of its contents (including the parts, several Porsche 914’s in various stages of decay, and a few Vanagons).
How typical is it (in 2023) to come across something like this? Have others here had a similar experience? I’m asking because I’m shocked to see so many parts that may still be salvageable and useful located in my general neck of the woods.
I’m including a few photos to show what kind of things are sitting in boxes (inside an out building), scatted about the yard, as well as in an outdoor lean-to.

Some nice stuff there. Also junk. The time spent to sort these these piles out is usually worth more than the parts, though. _________________ .ssS! |

Used engine parts are a real toss-up and hard to evaluate visually. Large parts are too expensive to ship anymore ( very slow sales). The small stuff will bring money. The labor to clean up yards is significant and quickly exceeds the value of the stuff. They would be smart to sell it all, one money, at a good price and move on with life. Cherry picking leaves a huge mess you get pay someone else to clean up. Done a few of these... _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

And please let me know if any are found.
I know a guy in your area would pay a good/fair price for a core.

This kind of hoard is becoming more and more rare all the time.
The jobs of cleaning/blasting, measuring, and finally rust prevention and packaging are many.
Depending upon condition, it could be good stuff saved for good reason,
Or junk that never made it to the trash. _________________ Bus Motor Build

most of that shit was so poorly cared for it's scrap now
I'm willing to be every transmission that sat outside has enough water damage to render them useless
sad...really
last year there was an old fucker around here that took a dirt nap and had a barn full of vw stuff...so they are still out there.
really there are 2 choices...scrap it all and walk away or take the first offer someone gives you...otherwise trying to sell the stuff will take forever _________________

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public. |

Is this in NY? I'm in Syracuse I'd be really interested in checking it out if that's possible. _________________ First Trip in the RustyBus:

Hopefully you can haul all that stuff away free of charge.
Maybe it can go to someone who will actually do something with it.. _________________ Bus Motor Build

The people who would actually give you a rectangular dollar bill for any of that stuff are scarce indeed. _________________ Bus Motor Build

The relative who hosted us says there is a six rib tranny (somewhere) but did not offer to show it.
Thanks for the comments. I’m not looking to get tangled up in this mess - but if I could find NOS type 4 engine parts, this would interest me.
VDubTech, Send me a PM - I’ve been to your place before - a few years ago and got some parts from you. _________________ Late 1973 Bay w/a transplanted 914 Engine |
