Looking for help in identifying the purpose of this hole in the floor of my 1956 Wolfsburg ambulance. I don't think it is original but want to be sure before deleting it. Thanks.

Many older large North American firetrucks have a foot switch for the siren, like a high beam switch but momentary, any bonus holes in the roof or nose for a big rotary siren?

I thought it may have been for that purpose too but couldn't find any evidence of extra warning equipment anywhere on the bus.

what do the bolts go to and what is visible through that hole? Any weird mods in the front end?
