Once again, we got a lead from my brother's coworker about a bus. Went and czeched it out, turns out it's a 75 safari. This is another massachusetts bus. Found receipts in the bus dated back about 10 years.
We pulled it out yesterday with a tow bar and my brother's Nissan. We were excited to see that all four wheels moved freely when we pulled it out the first couple of feet. The bus was sucked in the dirt about 2-3 inches. Other than that the extraction was fairly easy.
More info to follow. Pretty excited that this bus is about 95% complete and should clean up nicely. _________________ 77 Westy - Cape Cod Sage

I love the look of that bus! It doesn't look too bad off either from a distance. _________________ '78 Bus 2.0FI

You need to be mindful of hidden surprises on those New England gems. Cancer can and will hide in the strangest of places. Not meaning to throw mud on your parade, I truly hope that your find turns out to be a treasure. I wish you the best of luck, remember to get lots of elbow grease and some spit-shine!!!! Lots of pics of your progress, too! Peace, Brother of the Bus! |

We have looked at a lot of buses in mass. This is really decent and only has a few issues. We've welded split buses back together and started the OG Bay Pride Alliance parts bus. This thing has potential but we're not afraid of New England crust. Adds to the flavor. After 12 years of being in the hobby you know what to look for and what to expect. We're not your average millennial who thinks you can just jump in and drive. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

That's why this bus was saved, to preserve it from that stinky feet smell. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

Nice, what are your plans for it? Please don't throw that tire cover away. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

I hate to break it to all you nostalgic hippies out there but if there is one thing on this bus that has to go it's the tire cover. Man I feel like if I put that tire cover in the ads I could bring in some cash...... The reason why this thing was sold was due to poor maintenance and up keep due to lack of knowledge that this is a machine, not a hippie, dope smoking, hangout.
Plans are to go through all mechanicals, ditch the single carb for a dual carb setup, and make it safe! _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

Sounds like you have some sort of hangup/assumptions about "hippies". Maybe you're defensive because you drive buses and people assume you're one? For the record I don't "smoke dope" and am clean cut. I do however appreciate the significance of the Grateful Dead in busing history.
Give it away at a vw show, or burn it if it makes you feel better! Either way, cool bus, I hope you'll keep us updated. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

"Hey man, got a joint?"...."Be a whole lot cooler if ya did". I bet that bus rocked some great times whilst it was poorly maintained and neglected. Seems in very good shape for its age to me. Maybe you could replace the tire cover with a re-print of your favorite Readers Digest article to get the right kind vibe going. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

The tire cover reminds me of the Toy Truck.

Got around to taking some pics of this weird exhaust. Super homemade but solid as a rock!

You're missing the lower engine tins that go between the heads and pushrod tubes. You'll want to hunt those down so the engine doesn't overheat. Also, because the heater boxes are gone you'll need to block up the holes that usually blow fresh air into the heater boxes. You'll just be letting hot air in from the exhaust that'll get blown back into the engine bay.
Good job pissing off the hippies too.. _________________ '73 Transporter 1.7L Dual Carb
