Putting together the motor for my '70 Westy and ran into a problem today. I have a doghouse setup and went to try and bolt the doghouse adapter to the case and the studs are too big. Its a universal case with the provisions for the mustache bar so I assumed that a doghouse setup would work on it.
What are my options? Is there a doghouse adapter that uses smaller studs? Should I drill out the case? Or just use a regular shroud setup? _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

Drill out the case, or use stepped studs. Must be a really early universal case. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Make sure you have enough meat and drill the case.
Make sure you have 4 of the #3 seals.
Only two come in the gasket kits.
Good luck

Thanks for the picture. Given the two options of drilling the case and using stepped studs, I was going to opt for the studs seems there seems to less chance of messing anything up, would drilling the case be a better option though? _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

Some of the cases had a reducer bushing pressed in the holes for the cooler. Those are very apparent when you see them. |

Yeah my case definitely doesn't have any bushings. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

Hi.
Tasb, if the ears on the case will only allow a 6mm stud then wouldn't this case be a 1970 style, which used the black metal cooler, but was the first year of the dual relief case with the larger oil gallery's? Or could it be a "universal case" with oil gallery's at the earlier 8mm dia, in which case the green tapered oil cooler seal would be used between the case and the adaptor?
To the original poster I think you need to measure the two holes atop the case.
Hope this helps, Bill. |

My thoughts as well.. Could be a single relief case. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

chaosisme, you want to make sure you know what case you have and what seals to use.
You can fry the motor is you don't get it right.
Oil cooler seals
Good luck
