That's what I'm talking about. The funny thing is, how much/many drugs do you need to necessitate the WAGON? LOL!! Perhaps on the inbound leg, in bulk form!! |

Update, I'm going to start making some progress on this car. A couple of questions, I believe it was white over black, 1966. If the seats had the wide band or stripe down the seat (as a 66 should?) what were the two materials? The first pic here is a 66 bug, is that what the seats can look like? I could not find a good T3 representation pic in black. What color should my steering wheel be? Is the white one the correct type? I suspect it was from a bug.

Dan, this guy has a bunch of interior photos in his gallery:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_search.php?search_author=Steve65cobra
The '66 interior is pretty unique. Note the heat seam patterns on the door and rear seat interior panels, as well as the upholstery patterns. I will see if I can find a photo of the cargo area- it's '66 only as well. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

This poster has tons of detailed photos of his '66 Pearl White car. Front seat covers are incorrect catalog replacements but the rest looks legit. He shows the rear hatch area too. The only thing not quite right there is that on the top of the cargo area side panels there is some sort of a rail- maybe for the super scarce accessory cargo cover. It should have the chrome push- in buttons holding it in all around.
Hope this helps! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Thanks for the link Tram. Those shed some light. One thing I'm figuring is my white steering wheel with no horn ring is wrong.
Tram, do you still come to Ohio on occasion?
There is a chance my 69 could go back to FI. |

After looking at the white vinyl, visualizing it done in black, I'm thinking perhaps a black leather such as the Bug interior above with the perforated would look pretty darn cool. hmmmm.. |

So Tram, I think the 66 door panel you linked
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=1952798
has vertical stripes and certainly looks authentic.
What other year has the Z shaped armrests? 67?
Here is the door panel I have and thought was 66
Thanks for the info. I'm not stuck on correct but will use it if it's cool and available! |

That's a 67 door.
Both 66 and 67 had the 'Z' armrests with the trim piece.
67 was the first year for up/down door locks in the window frame.
I'm not sure about the window crank knob - but 67 had black dash knobs (vs. 66's white knobs), so maybe they color matched the crank knobs, as well... _________________ 1988 Ford Festiva L

Dan's door is 100% correct 1967. Horizontal heat stripes, no chrome strip above the ribbed lower door panel section, correct window winder with black rubber knob, and correct black finger pull insert, as well as the lock knob being upright by the rear of the roll up window. Yes, '66 window winders were siverbeige (aka "off white" but a different knob design than 1961-5) and all pre '67 finger pull knobs were silverbeige. Pigalle and Teak may have had matching finger pull guards- can't remember offhand.
1968 and very early 1969 Euro market cars used up the remaining Z armrest stock. Euro cars also continued with wrap-around signals and reflectors, and lowback seats in most markets. There were some exceptions. They also came with the twin carb setup rather than FI, and the "standard" models (previously N) came with a single side draft 1500 until the end of production in July 1973.
What I learned decades ago from an old- timer was that bullets were the way one could tell a fuel injected car in '68-9.

Hey Dan! Here are some pictures of the original T3 fastback in the swamp. You can see a few things in it. It did have the black steering wheel with the horn ring. And you can see the seats, they have the basket weave pattern
On the doors, sorry if I wasn’t clear that they were from a 67. I thought about it and realized there could of been a bit of a miscommunication when I was talking about these doors and the 66 fastback in the swamp when I was talking about the doors and them both being sea sand and the arm rest going from tons of places. If you want I can get the correct handles etc. Shoot me a message if you got some questions.

Thanks guys for the info. Aiden, as you recall I was really after those nice Z shaped armrests, the 'rest' was just a bonus. I was planning on replacing the door cards and I have the white winders already. I'm just not sure if anyone makes the 66 door cards with the vertical seams (like in your swamp pic!!) If anyone has a site to check other than ISP west, please share it.
Thanks much!
Also, Aiden if you back to the swamp I'd buy that wheel!! |

Mike, that ghastly weld with parts from you is actually on my other car, the Royal red 69. The royal red car did a few years in Cleveland winters, and has the spots requiring patches. The 66 I'm doing in this thread, now that the floors are done, is pretty much rust free CA car.
I'm quite sure I'm one of very few folks silly enough to have 2 build threads going at once on T3s. When gathering parts for #1, if you find #2 which is as good or better than #1, well, as in blackjack, you have to double down! |

FWIW, IIRC, If you can contact the right person at TMI (that's IF),
They can do (mostly) correct repro seat covers for you.
You'll have to make sure they know exactly what you're looking for, and not just any old seat covers that will fit a '66.
Smooth sides, Smooth edges of the seating area, textured in the middle.
Plus the 'roll-over' top of the seat where the seam is in the rear.
Rumor has it that they also tooled up to do the '66-only vertical heat seaming for the door cards,
But haven't seen it IRL myself.
On my '67 it took me a couple of tries, but they added seams to my seat covers and did the roll-over so the seat covers were correct for '67,
And they added the horizontal ribs at the bottom of the door cards as well.
It took some doing, but they got it.
Might be worth it for you to try and hammer your way in there if you really care about originality.
Worked for me. _________________ Bus Motor Build

I may end up just buying the whole car, it’s got a lot of good parts. I can get the blinker for sure. I actually bought the wheel off of it and I’m working on prepping it for my beetle. But I can see if there is another decent one. I was looking at your wheel and it looks like the correct one but the wrong horn ring and color. Maybe repaint it? See if it has the 311 part number. I do have the correct horn ring for it though that came off the car. Here’s the current state of the wheel that was on the car. You can see if it’s the same as yours too

OK, now that I know the wheel should be black and have a horn ring, a light came on in my brain, I had one from a later car that I thought was the wrong style for an early car. I dug it out of deep storage and cleaned it up.
NEXT!
