Well I didnt make it to Kelly Park with the car...but little by little we are making progress.

Here is my next question - I redid the steer shaft and coupler to the steering box.. But it isn't center in the tube. seems to rub at the top. Do I have to more the steering box. Or is the a "don't worry" item?

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Next is the gap between the steering wheel and indicator switch.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Do I just slide the tube up? Here is how much I can move it.

Does the horn brush have a specific place on the shaft? Will my horn brush still contact the shaft to make the horn work if I move the tube up to close the gap?

Thanks for watching.

Martin

Martin,
Yes, the horn brush has a specific spot on the shaft. If you pull the shaft out you will see a small brass band with a wire pinched underneath, this wire then connects to the horn button. Grab a flash light and look through the little hole, if the horn brush pushes against the steel shaft instead it will cause a short.

I'm sorry I can't be of any help on the wheel, I've always run a stock piece.

Good Luck
Will

pretty sure if the wheel is fully in place then the tube will have to move up in order to fill that gap

just loosen it off and wiggle it up making sure you don't pull its out of the hole

great looking car

Work continued this weekend, spent about 5 hours in the garage.

I stood in front of my blast cabinet for much of those hours getting my seat frames cleaned up and then painted. I finally just broke down and used later seat frames as finding a good set of Oval frames was just too difficult and expensive.

And continuing on the Vintage Speed Outlaw theme, I drilled out the ebrake handle and left it raw (clear coated it).

Mounted the rear bumper correctly. I had to straighten out the brackets and add the reinforcement plates. Now the decklid opens without hitting the bumper.

Here is another purchase waiting to be installed. A bit of safety with the BlazeCut.

I really like the little custom touches you are doing to your bug. The belt is off the hook.

So I finally got back to the car this past weekend. I got the seats done. But one might be wrong. I know they arent the correct year seats but I thought there wasnt a right or left to them. But I've got a clearance problem with the back rest adjuster. Take a peek and let me know if I'm right.

Since the seats are not original and they are already done. I would cut the adjuster down just enough to free it up.

There is a left and right Smile the adjuster should be on the other side so that you adjust it before you hop in the seat!

For your safety I think the brake hoses from your reservoir to your master cylinder should be the "blue" type to resist brake fluid decomposition.

Its been awhile since an update. I solve the steering wheel problem by cutting down the adapter and adding a spacer behind the bolt. Wired up a new directional switch. Wired all the gauges up. Finished the interior except for the door panels...I still may tackle the window and door seals so that is that hold up.

My engine is progressing with the short block built. The heads are being ported and polished. Should be a nice 1602cc motor.

Love everything you are doing with this build. What’s your plan for wheels? 356?

It'll be awesome to see you and your vintage speed Oval at KP in a couple of months Martin! I'll be there somehow from Missouri! I suspect our buddy Tom N. is getting my old - now his '55 Vintage Speed Oval ready for KP too, if so, you two need to park those cool black Ovals together!

It was a busy weekend with the Kircher Brother's Racing team...ha.

Friday I was at Ray's shop and mocked up the motor some more. Worked on the oil filter lines and distributor.
