I think it's "align boring", not line boring. As to align all the bearing saddles so the crank will sit true in said saddles. Eh?

Does it matter ? as long as you can find someone to do either on a 36HP Wink

Eh. Too me it does yeah. Its a matter of correctness. Just like i hate the word repop. No such word. Just came into vogue because people are too lazy to use the proper word.

It’s a reproduction not a repopaduction. People get lazy with their most valuable asset, language. I hate that. 😩.

I stand corrected.
https://www.rottlermfg.com/line-boring-machines.php

Anyway , there is a guy in these parts who has a vintage Rottler. Set up specifically for VW cases. Much better than half arse line bore bars. I’ll look around for his info. He was Boston Bobs flunkie if I remember. Bob died. This guy ended up with the Rottler.

This guy. He's got Boston Bob's Rottler I believe. Waltham, MA

( Disclaimer - I don't really know the difference, better or worse between a "rottler" line boring machine vs. an out of the wooden box line bore bar - I'm no expert on cases )

Stanagon knows him (Gary) well I am guessing.
Be forewarned, I think he (Gary) may be hard to get ahold of.

Call Stanagon maybe.

about the 36hp is relatively easy finding someone that can do a main linebore, the difficult is to find one that cut the sealing surface and repair also the cam bearing saddle... this is often required on cases with no cam bearings. some time ago i was looking for a 24mm ID bearing shell to easily repair 36hp, but had no success.
