Caption reads: The parade of the new vehicles was led by the Berlin actress Christiane Jansen. And for good reason, since Osnabrueck builder Karmann says: "We built this car especially for women." Karmann used a designer from the Turin company Carozzeria Ghia who mounted the elegant Coupe body onto the VW export sedan chassis. The sporty car is a 2-seater, has a maximum cruising speed of 115 km/h (Rome: 71 mph). Price point: 7500 DM.

handwritten: Stern (magazine), 31. July 1955.

Title: Volkswagen in Sunday state

I've tried several times to contact the Karmann family. She does not want to be contacted. Certainly there will be photos in the family to Georgsmarienhütte, but unfortunately I have not been able to convince the family that we are concerned that the karmann Ghia will not be forgotten. I'll try again.

Well I guess there's no longer any point in trying to deny the fact that the Karmann Ghia is in fact truly a "Chick Car", huh?

Hey, hold on there just one minute.

I suddenly realize that what he really meant to say was that they designed the car specifically to attract women!
So the Karmann Ghia is in fact NOT a "chick car", but rather is in fact a "chick magnet car".

Hell yeah! Dancing

I picked up a 9/55 copy of Gute Fahrt yesterday, it has one of the launch cars on the wraparound cover, and a small article as posted up before..

I haven't yet found with certainty, the number licence plate of the fourth gazelle beige car, but it may be BN59-358

Did we find the 4 beige Gazelle cars license plates presented at the Kasino hotel on July 14, 1955?

Does anyone have any other photos of this event of July 14, 1955 ?

This is the back of one of the official colour pictures taken on the day...or even before the day of the official unveiling. Just Googled "Foto Koltzenburg Osnabrück" and the company seem to be still in business. Has anyone been in touch with the company?

If I know anything about photographic studios, it's they keep meticulous records...they catalog everything. If this company were hired to do the official photoshoot, they would have had several photographers covering the event and most of it in colour. Most of those colour pictures will have been unused but still in their archives.

Someone, I mean Udo should check with them to see if they still have a Photo Archive.
