Is this truck already registered in the US, or will you be importing it and registering it yourself? I was just researching this for another pickup to come to the US.

If it is in Brazil, you can figure $2000 to get it here, a 25% duty on trucks, and the purchase price, then it's in the country.

Now, since it is a new as 1986, there are other issues if you are importing it. You will have to have a manufacturer's statement that it meets DOT standards, and EPA will want to have a look at the emissions. Then there is NHTSA.

If it is already here, then you can forget the ocean transport, duty, and all that other paperwork.

The purchase price depends on its condition and rarity. It's certainly rare in the US. What is its condition? Rust-free? Well maintained? Look at the prices for comparable crew cabs from the '70s in the classifieds, then add $10,000 for its collector value.

Thanks guys for the imputs. So I think that for a good example the 20 to 23k will be around right.

For the EPA , DOT and other requirements, I was thinking that was only for car less than 25 years old.

Thanks again.

Nobody answered him about the 25 year rule> I think it is exempt.
(10 years ago I imported 2 1996 Jeeps from England. They both had EPA stickers, I think, but OBVIOUSLY NEITHER HAD DOT approval. I presented the paperwork at the dock. Waited and hour and drove them home. Drove on Emgland plates for a while then Iowa inspected and gave me title. Never changed anything. Still has RHD headlights DUH!)
Maybe things changed since then? This was at Dundalk, MD. (Baltimore)
It seems to me that Overland Parts brought in as many as 10 in about 1986. A few were for sale over the years. They brought in disassembled in containers, I have no idea how they titled them.
If in the US, this could be one of those 10. Pretty nice vehicle, a combination of Bay and splittie with more modern electricals, etc. DRUM brakes with booster.
I don't think you'd have to pay more than $15k for it though. It's an orphan here.

From the EPA's website;

Quote:
Section 3: Exclusions
Some vehicles are exc
luded from the motor vehicle emission requirements of the Clean
Air Act. Reasons for exclusion include vehicle age (i.e., manufactured prior to the regulations),
fuel type, maximum speed, exclusive use for competition or racing, or lack of features associ
ated
with practical street or highway use. Please note that some vehicles excluded from the motor
vehicle requirements may be subject to non-road vehicle and emission standards which have
become effective in recent years.
3.1
Vehicles at Least 21 Years
Old
A vehicle is exempted
if
it has been 21 years or more since its original production year
and it is in its
original unmodified condition. Vehicles in any condition may be excluded if they
were manufactured prior to the year in which EPA's regulations for the class of vehicle took
effect. Vehicles at least 21 years old with replacement engines are not eligible for this
exemption unless they contain equivalent or newer EPA certified engines and emission control
systems. Upon entry, the importer must file an EPA Form 3520-1 with Customs and declare
code "E" on the form.

A vehicle of this age will be exempt from the EPA and DOT requirements, but the paperwork still has to get filled out.

The 25% tariff still applies.

I've been looking into all this pretty hard over the last week, since now that Snickers is sold, I am looking for my next conquest, and it is not in the USA. Yet. Cool
