I looked but didn't see anything, so I thought I'd start a wheel thread.
I'm curious about what kinds of alternative wheels can be fitted onto the EV. I've seen some MB rims, but I'm specifically curious about Audi. I have a set of 16 x 7 ET49 five spokes from my '94 C4 Avant. I'd like to use them as winter rims with Blizzaks.
Any tips or concerns? _________________ Casey--

you'll want to lift it and crank the torsion bars up if you put 16s on it.
cavevan.com has awesome lifters. about to get a grip of them for our vans. _________________ -------

It's a 2001, so it already has 16" rims from the factory. I'm not entirely clear on what the offset is for those, though. I've seen figures from 35mm to 49mm _________________ Casey--

mine fitted with mercedes steels 7 x 16 et31 with 215/70 16 bfg at's, this is a '95 syncro multivan, with 2 x extra spring seats fitted to the rear, and front torsion bars wound up to suit, later vans may not suit this offset, cheers baldy |

Love the look of the BFG's but how do they work on the street (where I drive 95% of the time)? How many miles do yo expect to get out of them? |

Lots of wheel options, almost anything with a 5x112 pcd from a VW/Audi will bolt up, and lots of aftermarket options. 2000s Passat, A4, A6, mk5 onwards golf, etc should be a straight fit. Don't go too wide or you will scrub the arches on compression.
You should consider the load rating of the wheel, in the UK it is illegal (but not strictly enforced) to use a wheel that is not rated beyond the max weight of the vehicle. People get very upset about this online, but just be sensible. Chinese eBay replica wheels do have a habit of cracking thou. |

How does one check the load rating of the rim from another VW or Audi? Is there a code on the back of the rim and a way to decode it? I've seen a picture of an EV with 2012 and later Beetle heritage rims (which I think looks great) but I'm worried that those rims would have nowhere near the load rating required for an EV. Thx |

on my Borbet wheels I had on the Passat, the actual max Kg rating was imprinted on the wheel. I believe (without looking now) the same was true on OEM steel wheels for the EV that I use on the snows.
In any case, any wheels that are also sold in Germany for example should with it or on the manufacturer site have a copy of the ABE (Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis) which should state the max load of the wheel.
Same is true for the ET.

Also, speaking of offset. Unless I am mistaken, the OEM wheel has an offset of 49mm. That's quite a bit more than most aftermarket wheels have (many I've seen have 32-35mm). Unless I get this totally wrong, the lower the ET, the further the tires will stick OUT, reducing clearance to the fender.

No issues, I'm running a set of 15x7 forged Fuchs alloys from a UR Quattro.

They fit like a glove, and the center caps pop right in...but are a little loose, since the detents in the rims are in a different place.

Here is our 99 EVC on some B5 Passat "Sport Alloy" wheels (VW used to really lack creativity when naming wheels) wrapped in 235/60/16 Kuhmo Crugen HT51s. The suspension is still stock height (for now). Seat center caps added for the super OEM+ look.
