A zwitter isn't a "fake" split, it's the last split! (and in my humble opinion, the most attractive of all beetles Wink )

Every iteration of the beetle is part of an ongoing progression, by the above logic, all splits after 1938 would be "fake"!!

The Zwitter is technically a better car than an earlier split.

It will have a transmission with gears 2 through 4 full synchromesh. The early split has a full crash box.

It has a carburetor with an accelerator pump. The early split has no accelerator pump.

It will have vent windows on the door windows. The early split will have no vent windows and at best crotch coolers.

The dash is a much better design on the Zwitter.

I think the brakes are a little better in the Zwitter too.

Overall the Zwitter will be a better driving car.

If I had to choose between early or a zwitter and they were in identical condition I might choose the zwitter but that is probably only because I already own a early split. Zwitters are the most refined splits ever made without a doubt. It would be a hard call.

I have one Zwitter who is waiting for new life and I want it for myself. But, i might have some extra cash and have an offer like that. Maybe, but only maybe I will buy one of those two only for selling because I think I could make some extra money. Zwitter from the offer is in better shape then split and has original paint. Which one is worth more? Maybe I can sell one and keep another if I manage to sell one quickly.
I know I am teasing you guys, but I will not post any pictures before I make a desicion.

In my humble opinion, I don't want a oval dash in my split.
An yes I'm sure a 72 beetle is more evolved then a split also but would you want one. Most of the people on this thread own splits and I'm sure know ones trading for a zwitter anytime soon.

Well if I owned a Split, I might not swap it for a Zwitter either, but that's a different matter.

I like Beetles, full stop, but wouldn't personally want anything newer than what I have now (I own an early '55 Oval).

My point was just that it's not valid to call a Zwitter a fake split. To clarify, a Zwitter doesn't have an Oval dash, it has the later Split dash, which was carried over to the Oval. Wink

Nothing prettier than a split dash. Cool
