Enough repairing buses its time for a road trip
Every year we head into Yorkshire to a place called Dent for a Music and Beer Festival and to catch up with friends who meet up for the festival then we move on working our way across the UK to somewhere on the coast.
This years was home > Dent > Appletreewick, Yorkshire > Robin Hoods Bay, Yorkshire, a 420 mile round trip.
A few shots from Dent and some of the bands playing

Next stop Appletreewick.
Appletreewick is a small village set in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales close by the River Wharfe and its surrounded by stunning countryside.

Next stop was on the coast, Robin Hoods Bay just south of a small fishing town called Whitby. One of our favorite parts of the country!
the trip did flag up an issue on the bus, if it had been sat on damp grass, the engine failed to start, we have narrowed it down to two badly corroded wires on the starter solonoid, easily replaced. _________________ Major; 1977 Westfalia Campmobile

Quite beautiful there! |
It certainly is, the locals really friendly and welcoming too.
Like America (I guess) there is an abundance of beauty which surrounds you but it can be taken for granted as the work part of life gets in the way.

Its been three months or so since I last updated the build, its still going well and the interior has all been cleaned up, varnished, beeswax polished and refitted.
I'm please with how it looks but looking back, there is one thing I wish I had changed, the units had clear wood varnish applied but the worktop had mahogany oil applied and it looks superb. I only discovered the oil after I had done refitting the units.
The wardrobe unit has had a new back fitted and the cracked laminate removed, glue cleaned off and varnished and the rubber trim replaced and to cap it all, new handles.
The coolbox has been refit, the lids both had cracked laminate, this was removed and varnished, the grill repainted satin black and the laminate on the body of the unit beeswax polished.
Bedbase refitted, all of the laminate was good so this was polished and new handle fitted.
The main kitchen unit has had a complete refit, the water tank, drains and sink/worktop removed as I dont want to use it, all new shelves cut to size, varnished & fitted, doors had cracked laminate removed, new door handles and a new worktop.
New carpet fitted
Ive got the engine lid to finish off painting, the right hand door to sort, hookup kit to fit, solar panel & charging to sort, upholstery and have a Subaru EJ20 conversion sorted!

It has been a while since I last updated Major's thread, got lots of little bits ticked off the list.
The mains hook up installed
Engine bay lid repainted and refitted
Right hand cab door repainted, refitted and the trim reinstalled
Cab mats and kick panels refitted
Left hand cab door trim refit in progress.
Hook up:
* the orange incoming mains power cable is now much tidier, it is clamped down, exits via a correct sealed gland nut to the plug. _________________ Major; 1977 Westfalia Campmobile

The engine hatch is in excellent condition with minimal surface rust present, which was pleasing.
It needed a good rub down before painting, no rotten sections, no dents, a nice easy bit to restore!
All the hardware was cleaned up, degreased or polished...job done!

The right hand cab door was filthy, 40 plus years of embedded use!
Underneath all of that, this door was again in excellent condition, just surface rust and that is it.
This just needed degreasing, cleaning up and flatting back, no rust repair or filling needed and it was ready to paint.
Fully painted and refitted
Chrome trim, glass and quarterlight frame refitted
I must say I love the look of the Brazilian door mirrors
Cab mats and kick panels refitted
Onwards and upwards! _________________ Major; 1977 Westfalia Campmobile

Thanks buddy!
Those interiors can be really comfortable especially with fresh foam and new upholstery. _________________ Major; 1977 Westfalia Campmobile
