I cant believe its almost three months since I last updated this thread. I've been busy beavering away getting stuff done.
Got the left hand / drivers cab door rebuilt fully:
When we bought Major, the spare wheel cupboard was missing its correct cover and after some thorough searching, I managed to source one with damaged veneer. This turned out okay after some hard work removing the old veneer:
I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Next up was to refurbish the wheels. The Gasburners we run with had severely blistered laquer and the tyres needed replacing with van rated 195 / 70 / 15's. The did look nasty:
Some degreasing, sanding and laquering later, they look fine:
Next up, finish off refitting the Madmatz mat set, its only taken 7 years to fit the walkthrough and wheelarch mats!! No rush eh

We like to be warm and cozy and the cold steel of the bed base was far from inviting so I added two layer of 6mm thick insulation sheet to cover it well and made a cover for the engine inspection hatch. Should be warm 
The plan is to fit solar panels to supply 12v for our fridge and phones / iPads along with the interior lighting so a start was made on the sockets.
Two USB sockets plus a 3-pin audio socket (capable of up to 50V DC) should be okay to start with. I have added a small in-line fuse box with two spare fuse bays for future expansion.
I did tidy the hook up power cable up and route via the correct gland to the incoming power socket
I found the portable storage compartment, which needs working on.

Last update I had started refurbishing the storage box, which turned out good in the end!
New upholstery, laminate removed and varnished, new trim, sorted.
Whilst we had success upholstering, we did the armrest.

We figured additional storage would be more beneficial to us, I set to and made a little cupboard to fit up in the roof bed space as it probably will go unused.
Fits a treat.
Next up, engine bay.

Time to remove the engine and gearbox, clean everything up in the engine bay area, paint, tidy and sort the motor out.
The engine bay is ditched with 42 years of oil, grime, old underseal and surface rust.
Lots to do
With little effort, good progress was made.
Slow and steady...

Well, after the last update I must admit to not wanting to attempt the engine bay or knowing where to start.
Start I did, after some hard graft in removing the old rust, underseal and grease / grime, I got there. It looks good!
Underneath the fuel tank
Chassis rail ends
Around the firewall / fuel tank aperture
Light clusters
Left hand battery tray / wheelarch
Gearbox degreased & painted

It was well worthwhile investing the time to do it right, it’s paid off!
I will waxoyl or apply something similar to the chassis rail ends, both inside and out, add a bit more protection.

Lots of odds and ends done these past few weeks.
1. The gear linkage bushes replaced on the main shift rod.
2. Gear change fork link fitted with new rubber bushes and a solid / bored out centre shaft rather than a badly formed split tube.
3. New fuel flow and return hoses
4. All of the breather hoses replaced
The starter motor was a mess, that has been cleaned up, connections rejuvinated ready for use.
The gearbox is remounted in the bus with fresh oil
Both driveshafts had a good clean up, the rubber boots checked okay and some fresh grease.
The roofbars are under refurbishment now, I have the solar panel monitor to fit & wire in then its Scooby time

I have been working in the same area after removing my engine and transmission. I redid my engine bay about 7 years ago but under the gas tank was a nightmare. Your pictures inspire me to keep going. Tired of getting grease in hair.

Nice to hear that youve got some inspiration from me, when I say its worth it, it really is!
Good luck, stick with it and do it well, you will be pleased when its done. The area on your bus doesnt look too bad to be fair!

In view of the Covid situation, past years have seen us grab lots of camping adventures in, Covid stopped all of that in its tracks.
That said, every year a group of us off thelatebay head down for an informal gathering in The Cotswolds for a weekend. This year went ahead, everyone respected social distancing, ensured friends remained safe and we even managed a beer or tow together.
Was a brilliant weekend, superb weather with a superb bunch of friends!

More exploration whilst we have the opportunity.
Derbyshire this time, surrounded by superb scenery.
The location was next to a village called Biggin alongside an old limestone railway, The Tissington Trail. The views from the campsite was amazing, really picturesque.
