Cannot find anything online, or any current threads on this.

Anybody know how to rewind and install this seat belt spring? It's from the jump seat lap belt on a tin-top weekender. I bumped the plastic cover and it exploded.

I investigate the one good one, but don't want to take it apart or else I'll end up with 2 non-working seat belts. Watched a few video's online, but none are similar enough to this mechanism to make any sense.

Anyone?

Springs are usually pretty clear cut.

Post a few clear photos of where it came out of, there will be slots to take note of and maybe tell tale wear points that will be a clue.
Maybe even a pin or raised plastic hook?

I`ve never taken apart the jump seat belt but only the front ones, might be a bit different. What I do remember is wanting to wash the webbing, then reinstall. I messed up the recoil number of turns before reinstalling it, and it never worked right...if you don`t have that number, it`ll be near impossible to set the pre-load on the spring I think.

Never looked inside a seat belt spring assembly so crazy thought but....

use zap straps to hold coils in place, secure as well as you can, e.g. cover mostly closed then cut and remove straps? Something like that?

Neil.

One of my first tasks when buying an old VW is I purchase new seat belts for it.

The web is old, dirty and sometimes damaged, the retractors often no longer retract.

If I recall I've used Seat Belt Planet.
