Anton, great pictures and video. It's funny that no matter what Volkswagen show you see throughout the world, the people and styles of the VW's all look the same. You could have said that this was a video in the U.S.A., and I wouldn't have know the difference.

One exception: I have many Facebook friends from Mexico and South America (Brazil mostly), and they like a LOT of camber on their rear wheels. But other than that, they dress the same and their VW's look the same, including customization.

I really like that picture in Red Square. The buildings are beautiful.

They don't have a choice, they're all swing axle down there. Even the ones made in the 90's are swing axle.

But you're right, it's almost scary how much VW people look alike, even on opposite sides of the globe. I guess when Dr. Ferdinand set out to build a people's car, he wasn't fooling around!

Floating, I mean they like a LOT of camber. The bottoms of the rear wheels stick out a ton. They're surely wearing out the inside of their tires.

I think it's just a style down there. The more camber on the rear, the cooler the ride.

Thank you for sharing that car show from the other side of the world! VW truly is the people's car, making the world smaller in every way. Lots of cool rabbits too! Love the low and crisp square lines of those as well. Very Happy

Good day to all!
Earlier, what was planned to do in the spring because of the weather and other household matters passed into June.
Today, within 15 hours of not too hasty, but rather fruitful hours, the following was accomplished:
1. Due to the fact that the oil sensor broke off before the event on the moscow race way track, namely my jamb, I dragged it with the existing microcrack in the thread, the sensor remained in the hands and the thread from the cylinder block. To do this, hung the engine out of the body, carefully drilled and replaced. It's not simple, but necessary, the chips in the cylinder head were not allowed, and the pressure control lamp is now in good order.
2. Adjusted valves, clearances on some valves were "audible" enough.
3. Have installed the necessary covers for the jacket of the motor cooling, the rubber bands on the tubes in the cooling "booth" and other attributes, as it should be from the factory. In addition, asbestos pads are installed on the crab of the heat exchanger, I want to remind any burner and other colleagues with air cooling that each casing, each elastic band and reflector plays a role, from the absence of something, the temperature of the internal combustion engine can increase by 3-7-15 degrees of Celcium, Load and speed is not exactly in favor of cooling, who loves not to be sick 115 `C ideally and 125`C at full throttle.
Next, they installed the left cooling engine parts in place, and he weighs all 80 kg, but the cart, the jack and a couple of boards solve the problem.
4. Adjust the thermostat, ignition, throttle.
After lunch, went to the rear torsion bars.
The task was to raise the clearance of the rear axle, I will not go into details of the work, removal, adjustment, installation of the rear torsion bars, but I will say one thing, the fascists did it all simply when you are at war and you do not care about the angle to a few minutes, as a result, Part of the day.
First, we must understand that the hand of a man was not touched there for 33 years, although there is little moisture there in the cast-iron pipes, but many times it was necessary to knock a torsion sticks with a sledgehammer. Suspension like a tank, but the difference is that the axis is one Smile
5. Summarizing, installed and raised the rear of the car, the old knee levers torsion almost rotted, the replica, too, with problems, well, all the same!
Now the slanting wheels, have become the "reverse house."
At the same time, all external and internal rubber bands of the "star", the torsion bar cover are replaced. Yes, it remains to make procedures for the convergence of the wheels, with the collapse of the rear in no way.
6. The rear torsion compensation system has been completely restored and restored, many will say that it is superfluous, but the German engineers installed it in the year 67 on the car and it compensates for the roll in the corners.
As usual, the beetle takes a lot of time, like the procedure such as pressing the rubber band with the bushing in the stabilizer with the current spare parts (replica), takes time and not a little, then drilled, then podrey and knock.
In the end, there was once again a small work Smile replace the rear brake hoses.
The drums wear out very qualitatively, the pads work rather efficiently.
As usual, while thoughts are hot after a given day, and under the fingernails lubrication and paint write this post Smile

The video is captured in motion as there was a back clearance and how it ended up.
Rear suspension was early morning:

interesting. it's the same set up they used on later factory made electronig ignition beetles.
Some years back people in Italy would install electronic ignition in their bugs using bosch distributors from Alfa Romeo boxer engines.

Hello everybody!
Today, not much has spent 11 hours to repair the car.
The plan was as follows:
Replacement of rear brake hoses;
In the process of work, the following process slowed down: sour brake hoses and the braided hose bracket on the axle. I had to weld and paint this attachment.
Next - pumped the rear brake circuit, adjusted (failed) pads in the rear drums. According to the results of repairing the brakes, it was revealed that the length of the handbrake cable did not match, apparently the previous owner did not spend a lot of time on this issue, in the end it is necessary to deal with this issue later. Order in some Bug store new cables and change in the future.
In the process of removing the rear wheels, and in general for the last trips by car, a pleasant sound was not heard from the rear of the car during rolling, turning the wheels, this sound quickly made itself felt, as a result, the bearing of the left half-axis failed. I had to deal with the dismantling of the hub, the removal of the bearing, the replacement of all the gaskets (which were not ready, there were no rubber bands, decided to use the sealant, also poured 1 liter of the hypoid transmission grease GL-4 into the box due to leakage at the time of repair of the hub through the removed The lid of the left half-axis, it is felt still it is necessary to return to the given works later if a leak of transmission oil is detected there.
Next, the bearing was pressed into the axle shaft and the assembly was assembled.
The next planned stage was the task:
Lower the torsion bar on the right side of the car by -3 teeth of the inner and +2 outer, that is, by 1.5 cm.
With two attempts, the attempt on the torsion suspension is 2 hours to dismantle / assemble all the suspension elements on one side. Record? This Bug never lets you get bored, where not to go (if you did not climb there), new surprises await you. It's good that almost the entire car was covered with everything that can and should be replaced - changed to a new one!
