Joey, really enjoyed the makeover. My old friend Helen who died recently at 94 ALWAYS drove Super Beetles with sunroofs. Once, she was so drunk that I worked the steering wheel and the shifter from the passenger seat. She only did the pedals. She remembered that for 40 years. |

Thanks!
I just ordered a restored distributor and carburetor from Bill and Tim (respectively). Can't wait to install them and get the engine running at its peak performance.
Gotta find a '71+ airbox now. _________________ **1971 Super Project

As mentioned above, I went ahead and splurged on a set of quality items in order to make the engine run as best as possible.
I decided to replace my 009/H30-31 distributor/carburetor combo for a restored SVDA distributor and a rebuilt German 34pic-3 carburetor.
The distributor came from Bill (wcfvw69) and the carburetor from Tim at Volkzbitz.com Both absolute great people to deal with. Highly recommended.
Plan is to install them tonight after the kids go to bed.

Man, those look sweet. I'm running the same - carb by Volkbitz, DVDA by Bill. I'll be doing the same w/my '73 when I get to refreshing the engine. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

Finally decided to start working on the bug. I got a small, but powerful, garage heater for Christmas and it makes working in the garage a pleasure during the past days with 20 degree weather. Great little heater.
I removed the rear shocks and started undoing the front struts. I'll be ordering new parts tomorrow. I need to get the '71 done asap in order to make room for the '56 that's coming soon.
My bro's '65 is on the lift, so I'm working on the floor.
Old shocks completely wasted.
You know is old when it has a "Made In The USA" stamp on it
I'm getting KYB rear shocks along with the adjustable front struts, rabbit inserts and original springs. I already replaced the bushings and tie rods. So it should be okay up front. Gotta get the sway bar bushings though. _________________ **1971 Super Project

That was a fun day Joey. Remember how HOT it was? ...and now we're running the heaters! I've got strut inserts and shocks arriving for the Minion's super so we're right behind you. |
Don't remind me of that heat. Although with the current snow, I guess I can welcome some of it. Man it was hot that day.
I'm meeting new people locally, hopefully we can do a fee more trips/meets this year.r _________________ **1971 Super Project
