Does anyone know if bay window van rims (5 stud) would fit on an '84 Vanagon? I'm driving 3.5 hours to pick them up so I need to be sure. I'm not quite 100% on this. |

When I needed a spare on the road the bay I looked at had steelies with 5" wide rims and the Vanagon steelies are 5.5". Bolt circle and diameter are right but they are narrower. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

from 1971-1991 were 5x112 (small 5) pattern.
1970 and down were wide 5.

Wheel fitment rule of thumb is 30ET. Coming from someone that's has not run stock steelies on my van. _________________

Bringing this back up. I found no pics of rims for differences.
Bus on Left. Vanagon on Right. Correct? Is there a name for that pattern?
I did not know I had 4 vanagon rims. The bus rim was in the spare tire hole. The search started and this topic popped up with no pics.. _________________ 1955 Beetle

Those are '71 only 14x5.5 rims. Slightly thicker then later wheels. I put a set on my '85 before I sold it.

l always thought with the round center hole, they were syncro wheels.
l had a bunch of bays in england, they ALL had the centers the same as the wheel on the right of fredybears picture, _________________ markswagen {mobile mechanic} san diego area all early VW's cared for.

I found the stamp date.
4/77 1977 Bus?
Since Vanagons were born in 1980. Correct? _________________ 1955 Beetle

Technically you could find Vanagon and Vanagon parts with 1979 production dates if they were an early 1980 Vanagon(My '80 has a '79 production date) but yeah, 1980 was the first MODEL YEAR for the Vanagon.
Either way, if its dated '77 its a bus wheel, not Vanagon. |

I have a very original 86 Syncro tin top 7 passenger. Factory window sticker says 205/70 tires and steel wheels with wheel covers. I am the second owner. When I purchased it had 6 wheels. All are 5.5x14. Does anyone know the source of the 6 inch wide Syncro wheel information? _________________ 1988 Westfalia automatic Subaru OBD1

That’s interesting, I had never heard of these. My 87 syncro had 5.5” from the factory. _________________ Driving a 90 Carat since 2014

Mini pet peeve, only spoked wheels have rims. There is the rim, the spokes and the hub. All together it is a wheel. Cars have only wheels. There was a small amount of spoked car wheels in existence but that was a long time ago and anyone who bought them have buried their heads or are dead by now. _________________ 1991 tin top GL
