I'm building a 36hp case engine. I want to add the VDO Pressure sender and temp senders. What options do I have to mount them?

thanks,
Martin

Two days later and no one's answered yet? Surprising.

Then again, I normally probably would not answer, as I don't work on 36HP, my history is all (big-bore'd) 40HP and newer engines.

So... A little spot research shows that the M18x1.5 replacement sending unit that VWO makes to replace the oil pressure relief valve cap screw, won't work on 36HP, as all the 25/36HP engines were M14 or M16 threads.

That is unfortunate because in my own experience that VDO temperature sender is one of best you can get. I won't ever try another drain plug style, I don't care where I mounted it (drain plug or within a late universal case type 3 oil filler blockoff plate) they ALWAYs would read noticeably lower than temperatures I'd take via other methods. On my Baja bug, I eventually bought a 2nd new oil fill blockoff, drilled and tapped it for M10x1.0 and used this sending unit as shown below, which has proven to also be quite accurate every time I've subsequently checked on it.

If/when, some day in the future, I rebuild another 40HP block I'll have to decide then whether to drill and tap the case somewhere on the sump to accept that type of sender, or just use an oil pressure relief valve.

As for the oil pressure, I don't see why you can't do the normal T-fitting into the stock idiot light sending unit hole along with the normal VDO pressure sender. But you might have to just remove an oil gallery and tap the plug, since with the 36HP fuel pump being right there, there's not much room left for a bulky T-bracket and bulky sending unit.

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox.
