I wanted to verify some battery dimensions today and couldn't believe how long it took me to find the info I was looking for. I eventually stumbled across the following site which has pretty much everything I wanted:

Good to know, not only for VW's, thanks! _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I'll add another tip here.
If you've got an Interstate All Battery Center near you, they probably sell "blem" batteries at a much discounted rate. (At least, when I looked for the nearby location, that is what they called it.)
Anyway, I've been buying batteries from this place since I was told about it in the late 90s and have had outstanding luck. I just bought one for my TDI Golf for $55. I think they listed Optima-type batteries for $10 or $20 more.
Think of it as the factory outlet store for Interstate batteries. If you don't need a fancy sticker on your battery and there is a store anywhere near you, it is worth picking one up there. _________________ Dave Cook

I had a blem battery one time that got a crack in the case and dump acid all over the battery tray. Not cool. |

That is pretty strange! I wonder if it was because it was a blem, or some other reason. I don't think any of the "blem" batteries I've ever gotten had a real "blemish" that I could see. As I said, in close to 20 years of buying them for many many VWs in that time, I've had no problems, and have had great luck. _________________ Dave Cook

Awesome link, thanks!
Anybody know the back story on the grouping names and numbering procedures?

Good question, pretty limited knowledge here myself.
I think the "F" in a Group 24F or 27F means Ford, and groups like T5 and H6 are modern designations as the few remaining battery companies try to reduce the number of different batteries out there. |
