Does anyone have any close up pictures of the mounting bracket for a stand up spare tire bus. I'm particularly interested in how the top part of the bracket mounts to the brace. I've searched the Samba, VW books and literature for info and just cannot seem to find any good pictures or info. The mounting bracket seems to be always broken or missing from the few remaining early buses still around.

Thank you for posting the picture. Definitely not original, but whoever came up with this set up certainly put more thought into the design and function then VW did.

Ed

That's got to help, looking a lot like some sort of hinge setup welded to the strap and support..maybe the mystery has been solved.

Thanks for posting the picture. Is it possible for you to take some more pictures, or have you already repaired this on your bus? Any additional info you can provide would be great.

The biggest question I have had about the original strap is whether it had a hinge.

Yeah Tony,
Pretty exciting if it is original and not a repair done years before.

One concern I have is how it the strap looks like it's offset on the brace.
I'm not ruling anything out, would be great if there are more pictures.

Strap looks like it could be screwed/bolted to the brace - perhaps using a similar screw to the 2 above - & the strap has pivoted at this point. I'm also thinking the strap could be (nearly) 180 degrees out from its normal position in the picture.

I think this picture is from the same bus Barndoor51 posted a picture of. Based on the added latch and chain, I cant help but think this one was replaced or modified at some point in its life.

This is a different view of the set up in Mark's Standard # 3502
An extra piece was welded onto the brace covering up the area of interest.

I found this picture in the gallery from the Sinalco bus, prior to be restored, It looks like there is something still attached to the top of the brace, but without having a close up picture its hard to tell what is left.

This last picture is from my bus after the brace was repaired/replaced.

Thanks for everyone's input so far, I appreciate the help.

Awesome. Thanks for posting the pictures. I would never had figured that out on my own.

Do you own this bus, would it be possible to get some more pictures? It would be great to get some close up pictures of the hinge, front and back, and measurements of the strap. Thank you for all the help.
