That is a pre-war picture. Not a picture of one of the "found" cars.

Next rare KdF Typ 82E Kommandeurwagen 1943 from Russia.

It was found in little village over Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in 1945 (after WW2), some Officier returned after War from Germany and He saw near his village abandoned two KdF-Wagens 82E.
One of them was destroyed, he drove into his garage and began to restore what was possible at the time (in the absence of spare parts).
any years later, history is not known, the car was in the city of Cheboksary on the Volga River in the 1960s. They drove the car for some time and then car`s engine damaged and it is parked for a lot of years, and in 1998 some editor of famous Russian car magazine bought it and replace to Moscow.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The KdF did not have a working engine, standing in the garage, it was cheappy painted, Man has not money for total restoration and KdF was hidden behind the garage walls.
In 2013 very famous WW2 Collectioner Richard from Germany became happy owner of this car, He bought KdF and brought to him Garage in Bavaria.
You can see happy moments... It is to difficult to get Car oldest 1945 from Russia, but Richard can do it!

After that the car was restored by Jacek from Warsaw/Poland (You know He is bery famous restorator of WW2 time VW), and now the Car in the good caring hands (color: Send - Beige on photo) !
Thank you Richard and Jacek! You are the best!

impressive restoration. also, very interesting rear fenders in the "before" pics. They look like they were repaired with parts from some other car, though I can't recognize what car they are from.

Hi guys,

this is Richard Hausmann.

Yes, I am building a museum for my 10 split window bugs and 4 barn doors. It will be hopefully ready in June this year.

But it will not be opened for the public, only for friends in the vintage Volkswagen scene on special appointment.

Cheers!

Richard

Antonb please do post your photos on thesamba.com instead of keeping them on some other website. All too often someone posts a really interesting thread like your's, but keep the images on a different website which after a bit gets rid of the images. This results in threads without images all too soon. Sad

Thanks for posting all if this!

as for the "secret transport" of vehicles during the war--

My uncle was in naval transport and they pulled up to a dock and found a jeep there. It was quickly strapped and hoisted aboard. (They had no "liberty" trans port )- so this worked out fine- They put numbers on it from one in the scrap yard and even got base gas for free.- was finally discovered by a thorough pencil pusher who checked the Id on the chassis.

SO-- it is possible to make a car disappear from Germany and end up in Moscow with out a trace- you just need to know the right people.

This is a 10/1942 Kübelwagen from Estonia and has been owned since 1977 by a well known restorer and collector in Tallinn. "Techically" part of the USSR but as the Estonians officially see it, occupied by the Soviet Union from 1944 to 1991. Back then there were many KdF vehicles in Estonia and the other Baltic states but many were traded for cheap western transportation or bought by westeners. Not many KdF vehicles remain.

About car - Yes you are right, But political point of you about "occupation by Soviet Union" is not correct! Do not read English version of Wiki:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupation_of_the_Baltic_states

After the collapse of the Russian Empire and the independent democratic Republic of Estonia was proclaimed on February 24, 1918.
Independence was achieved during the Liberation War.
February 2, 1920, Soviet Russia and Estonia signed a peace treaty on mutual recognition.

As a result of the division of spheres of influence between the USSR and Germany in 1939, Estonia in September 1939 with Soviet Union was imposed on "Mutual Assistance Pact" and 6 August 1940, Estonia was incorporated into the USSR
Over 600 000 Soviet`s soldiers was died in Baltic mission to free territory from Wermacht army it is very big price for word "occupation"

http://www.lituanus.org/1968/68_2_03Doc6.html

In the period from July 7, 1941 to November 24, 1944 Estonia was occupied by Nazi Germany.
After Soviet troops regained control of the territory of Estonia, it was again incorporated into the USSR.
May 8, 1990 Estonia's independence was restored.
September 17, 1991, Estonia was admitted to the UN. In 2004, Estonia joined the European Union and NATO.

Mixing VWs and politics is not a good idea and we should drop it but I cannot refrain from commenting the above. Here is the official Estonian view (not mine) of the chain of events, http://estonia.eu/about-estonia/history/estonias-history.html

"28.09.1939 As the result of military threats by the Soviet Union, a mutual assistance pact between Estonia and the Soviet Union was signed in Moscow, on the basis of which Soviet military bases were established in Estonia. Similar agreements, through which the USSR began to fulfil the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, were forced on Latvia and Lithuania.
16.06.1940 Taking advantage of the fact that the world's attention was on Paris being occupied by Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union occupied Estonia and began to destroy the existing national order. The same took place in the other occupied Baltic states. The Soviet oppression of Estonian citizens began; the first people targeted were local Russians.
14.-15.07.1940 The Soviet forces carried out illegal elections with fraudulent results in the Baltic nations, as a result of which Soviet order was declared in the Baltic states. These illegal elections became the basis for the Western world's non-recognition policy during the next half a century.
06.08.1940 The USSR Supreme Soviet decided to accept the Estonian SSR into the USSR. With that, the annexation of Estonia was complete. The annexation was accompanied by the destruction of the existing state structure and the annulment of the Cultural Autonomy Act.
14.06.1941 The Soviet authorities organized the first mass deportations in the Baltic states, during the course of which over 10 000 people (including close to 10% of the Jewish community) from Estonia were sent to prison or labour camps in Russia."

The same "Mutual Assistance Pact" and threats were offered to the other Baltic states and FINLAND, all once a part of Imperial Russia. Finland however had the strength to resist and take on the mighty Red Army and avoid the faith of Estonia and other Baltic states.

Here is the official Estonian view of the chain of events from 1944 to 1991:

"July – November 1944 Nazi German forces retreated and the forces of the USSR advanced onto occupied Estonian territory.
20.09.1944 The National Committee of the Republic of Estonia handed power to the Government formed by Jüri Uluots, the last constitutional pre-war prime minister of the Republic of Estonia who had served as president, which then attempted to restore the independence of the Estonian nation during the changing of the occupations. Jüri Uluots, who had fled to Sweden, created an exile government there, which together with the embassy in London and the consulate general in New York maintained the principles of Estonian independence abroad.
The resistance of the local people against the occupation forces continued in the forests. The last Forest Brother was killed in 1978.
08.05.1945 The end of World War II in Europe. In Estonia, which lost close to 20% of its population in the war, the Soviet occupation continued until 1991."

I do however agree that we must honor the fallen heroes of WW2, on all fronts and all sides.

Despite the current Russian Federation having been recognized as a successor state to the Soviet Union, USSR and Russia are not, and never were, the same thing.

I'd thus suggest, for the sake of clarity, either to limit the scope of this thread to russian KdFs, or (better, IMHO) to extend it to the whole "former Soviet Union" (changing its title at the same time) to avoid any possible misunderstanding that could then excalate into an undesirable political debate.
