HI , this would be my first posting and first attempt to do full bare metal restoration for my 1954 RHD BD Kombi, bought from UK, previous registration at UK was KAV 640.

Shall post photos soon. Just finished removing all parts, including the original camper interior that came with the Kombi.

This is a very good base to start with and has lots of history almost a shame to totally redo it but at the end of the day it's yours.
The parts you have listed are easy enough to find have a look in the classifieds on here.

HI Ben,

Agree on the history of this bus and would not want to mess with that .Only things thats going to be removed and replaced would be the Headliners , new nose VW emblem(if i could get the correct one for the year, or else the present one would be fitted again), repainting full body back to L75 and L76(internal and external),changing all the rubber seals (if i could source them,as Malaysia is a Tropical Climate Country, could notice some ingression on water during rainy days on side windows and front safari windows in long run would start corrosion ), present vent wings are slightly corroded (might do a simple restoration if i could not get the correct replacement )

The rest of what ever being removed would be reinstalled back including the original camper interiors....

I need to solely depend on Samba and the forums for restoration as none of BD parts are available in Malaysia, neither another BD in this country for me to refer to

Looking forward for a good guidance from all other forums members until completion

thanks

1/2. - Wolfsburg West or any place that sells bus seals
3. I don't know.
4. You have to find a used one for sale. Sometimes they appear in the classifieds here or you could place a wanted ad. You can also make a later one into a 3 pin one with some welding
5/6. I am not sure what you mean - there is no insulation originally?
7. Your Bus looks pretty original, I would post the logo you have on the other glass and try to find a match for that. You will have to find it used. The size does not change so you could use a later piece of glass if you want to fill the hole until the find the "correct" one.

#2 on your list......Not sure if he is still selling them, but samba member marklapriore makes a very accurate barndoor decklid to body seal. Try to pm him and see if he has any left.

HI 53 Kombi,

Ive sent email to Marklapriore and he confirmed that he still makes them. Shall order from him . Appreciate your link to him

HI Aspro,

Thanks

HI RC,

Im not sure if the headliner is original to the bus, but looks vintage . As for the engine, it came with Speedwell Charger, which is to be reinstalled once the powder coating for the engine tin and dog house is done

Take a closer look at those pics. Especially the ones of the A pillar and doors.

HI Joe,

As i mentioned earlier, Malaysia is a tropical climate and raining almost 6 months in a year is common. Some location of the chassis has started to show rust (near front safari window, side pop outs , cargo doors, passenger door frame), hence I've decided to remove the previous paint works and to give a new paint job...shall share some photos over the weekend

cheers
