I can some what agree. It was great either way, but there were more cars at the dust off. I loved it either way and meeting another Samba member was a giant plus. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Now that the bug-in and bug-affair are done it really does seem like that. I did not get to see them in full force though _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Some one or some group should step up and do at least one of the shows. I am sorry to say that there is no way I can be that guy (and I have been there and did that with the toy and lit shows we did (yes Frank you are part of the we)). |

There was a lot of talk but seriously there are also a lot of obstacles to get over these days. Maybe shows like that just can't be replicated. After being behind the scenes with the club for the past 9 years I can understand totally why the shows are no more. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

I was talking to Bill Arute about getting a CVA event together for Father's Day 2018. He is exploring the concept. I encouraged pre-show camping to help insure you'll have some die-hards in case of rain. |

my take.....
I have ways to pull off a show. I live on a 1K+ acre farm in casino county Connecticut. hell, I even have a fleet of golf carts to run around on. what I don't want to deal with is the bitching....from "my car didn't win" to bathroom situations etc etc....
the awards at most shows I have gone to have been a part of the "good old boys" club and I have witnessed 100% pure junk winning 1st place trophy's while cars that deserve to win don't even place....
I have gone as far into looking into event insurance which honestly, is a non issue if you get on a club "list".....it's actually affordable.
the other thing I don't want to deal with is clean up. if I were to have a 10 acre hay field mowed down to perfect for the event, I don't need to be picking up shit left behind...or worse going thru a 100K hay machine fucking that up at the next cutting.
sad, as I am near some killer attractions for the kids....misquamicut beach is about 20 mins from here, casino's about the same....as well as mystic aquarium etc etc. so it could be a multi day (Friday-sunday) event. I have plenty of room for camping and whatnot but the thought of taking complaints from people just turns me off. event setup and tear down relying on volunteers can be a daunting task as well....and very time consuming
it could be pretty epic, but the reality is it's a month+ in work that I wouldn't get paid for just to have people complain.....no thanks. I may do a "invite only" event for close friends where we can chill for a few days but at the moment it just doesn't appeal to me to invite the masses to come _________________

That all sounds amazing! I completely agree and understand your complaints
Which is probably all the same reasons no one else are willing to put on and promote a show.
I'd be down to hang with a few VW brothas and could care less about trophies and recognition, but good times and some grilling sound mighty fine to me...

Just saying |
that may be what I would be leaning towards....a group of about 10-20 people and just chill for a long weekend. fire pit, beer, grill and just relax...come and go as you please.
honestly I have done the show thing with several cars over the years, but just really went for the swap and camping. I would be more inclined to do a camp out/swap rather than a full out show.....dunno. this year is out as I am in the middle of a terminally ill family member.
the reality is a show gets people and vendors out there. I would have to see what it would cost to do something big, figure out a charge/fee schedule and whatever's left donate to a charity. at this point I have too much on my plate to know what I am doing in 5 minutes, let alone 5 days..... _________________

These are the obstacles I was thinking of! It's not a thankless job at all but those complaints just stick in your head. Especially when you put together a free event. Last year it was a guy arguing with me about parking at Mark's cruise night. Seems he didn't want to park his Porche next to a VW on VW night. I finally told him I wasn't gunna argue the point it's hot and I'm a volunteer. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

yep....
I am very glad chuck did what he did for all those years. it's a big pair of shoes to fill for sure.
the reality is, I have watched the attendance dwindle in the last 5 years....honestly I think a few of the old timers passed, and really there has been a mass exodus from Connecticut due to taxes etc....so I think we have lost a lot of vw people in the process.
add to that, the costs are REAL.....if it rains and no one turns up, it's a big pile of $$$ that you are out. that's why I am thinking more like a small event for the LFBI/Terryville alumni....byob and have a grill set up.
it's just sad that it ended this way. I really wish he had 1 more LFBI/Terryville and announced it at the show. I think I speak for a lot of vw people when I say that this got dropped on us, and no real time to regroup _________________
