Asking for help identify what the heck happened? And how catastrophic this is? Diesel engine and trans (standard)

Pretty sure that happened when the guy installed the engine. Or maybe the engine spent some time rolling around in the back of somebody's pickup truck. I don't see any catastrophy, or even a concern. I would tap it back down with a hammer just because, but not required.

The bent intermediate plate isn't any big deal. Fix the valve cover leak, clean the atmospheric bleed on the trans and fix the drive flange leaks if they are still leaking afterward. Top off the trans fluid.
